The Liverpool Letter
Liverpool Public School - August 2021
Principal's Message
How wonderful it is to hear of the outstanding work happening to support learning from home! We have all gotten used to the challenges of online learning and have settled into the new routines.
Once again I can not thank you all enough for the roles you are playing. Our staff who are working tirelessly to ensure that learning from home is meeting the needs of all our students, our students who have risen to the challenge with such positivity, and our families who are playing a vital role in ensuring our students continue to engage with their learning.
We are in the processing of preparing new learning from home resources for students. These will be sent by courier to families over the next week. Years 1 to 6 should receive theirs by the middle of next week. Kindergarten may take a little longer as we have purchased some additional resources for them and are waiting for the delivery. Once we have the delivery we will pack and get them sent to students as soon as we can. We will keep families informed of our progress and when they can be expected through Facebook and Skoolbag.
Whilst we may not be able to help with everything, we are more than willing to help with what we can. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the school and we will do what we can to assist. Please remember that the office is currently closed to on-site enquiries.
Contact can be made by telephone on 9602 7882 or liverpool-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au
With the continuing restrictions related to Covid19, we have cancelled or postponed a number of planned excursions. Refunds or credits will be provided to families depending on the status of the excursion or year group of the students.
If your child is in Kindergarten to Year 5, they will receive a credit for any money paid which can be used towards any future excursion or school event. Students in Year 6 will receive a refund for any money paid. Students in Year 5 and Year 6 who paid a deposit for the school camp will receive a refund. Please contact the school for a refund form to be emailed to you.
Kindergarten enrolments for 2022 are now open. If you have a child who is eligible, or know of a family with a child who is eligible, please visit our enrolment page for information. Applications for enrolment need to be completed online. We are currently planning our Kindergarten transition program for later this year. We will share this information with parents and carers once we have a clearer idea of future restrictions and updated guidelines for schools.
Liverpool Boys High School has contacted us with details of limited places they are offering to Year 6 boys in their Academic Excellence Stream next year. Whilst this offer applies only to current Year 6 students, I encourage all our families to take a look at the outstanding opportunities Liverpool Boys High School is offering to students. Further information is below.
Finally, please remember the importance of balance. There are time expectations for families from the Department of Education for the amount of time students need to be focussed on their core learning. Children need the opportunity to explore their hobbies and interests. Please take time to step away from devices and spend time with your family in the home. The internet is full of fantastic ideas for families to do together if you are looking for new things to do.
All the best to a wonderful, supportive and resilient community!
Yours Sincerely
Mr Tapuska

The Leader in Me
From the Deputy Principals - Mrs Alfaro and Mrs Pritchard
Dear Parents and Carers,
Term 3 has certainly been a challenge and an adventure for our students and teachers. A very big congratulations needs to go out to all our families, students and teachers for their ongoing dedication and commitment to being a part of remote learning. We have both had the opportunity to visit zoom sessions for a range of classes and are very impressed with the effort that students are putting in and contributing to developing their knowledge and understanding of their learning. Keep up the great work everybody!
A reminder to make sure that you are monitoring our Facebook and Skoolbag pages for any updated messages and important notices. This is the fastest way for us as a school to communicate with families. The school website also has the most updated links to useful resources to assist with remote learning and learning from home resources.
Tuesday’s has seen us have the opportunity to join the weekly zoom session for Morning Tea with Mrs E and Friends at 11:30am. Each week the link to join is posted to Skoolbag. It has been nice to see some of our parents join the sessions. We would love to see more parents come and join us each week. This is a great opportunity to connect with teaching staff and other parents to ask any questions you may have or just to have a chat with other adults within our school community. This week saw Mrs. E making Frittata’s online. Look out for the recipes from Mrs. E and Mrs Helweh.
They certainly looked delicious.
We hope you are all doing well and staying safe during these uncertain times. Please remember to reach out if you need any assistance. We are always here and ready to assist in any way we possibly can.
Take care and talk soon.
Mrs Pritchard and Mrs Alfaro

School Counsellors Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
We would like to congratulate all of you on the wonderful effort made to support our children! Living through this pandemic is hard enough for both adults and kids, but it is important that we do as much as possible to get through this without feeling stressed and overwhelmed. In these crazy times, we ALL need to remember to make sure to look after ourselves, as well as our children.
Here are some tips from us, just to make this period of remote learning that little bit easier for both kids and adults:
· Keep a routine. Try to wake up, go to bed and eat meals at the same time as you usually would on a normal school day.
· Balance your days with remote learning and fun activities away from the screen. Play games with your children outside, throw a ball, draw a picture, play a board game, do some cooking, HAVE FUN!
· Stay connected with friends and family. Make sure to call at least one person outside the home every day. Encourage your children to organise ZOOM sessions with their friends too.
· Talk about positives. Although COVID is a hard time for everyone, allow each family member to share one good thing that has made you smile every day. This could be something that has happened during the day, a shared joke, a memory, anything!
· Remember that it is okay to not be okay. If you or your children are feeling overwhelmed, please reach out for support…
· You can also contact the school to speak to a counsellor. We can refer you to the appropriate service to best suit your needs.
Thank you for all your hard work, we are all in this together!
From the School Counsellors,
Kellie and Kerry

Have an Adventure While Staying at Home!
Do you know which animals have their skeleton on the outside? Do you know where cheese comes from? How many stars and planets are in our universe? Why was a poisonous cane toad brought to Australia in 1935?
You will find the answers to all of these questions and much more by reading at home. And you don't need to visit a library or come to school to collect the books. At Liverpool Public School we want every student to be the best reader they can be, so we have set up every student with a login to access books they can read from home in a cloud based reading program called Wushka. The books in Wushka are both fiction and non-fiction texts, with many great stories.
We encourage every student to keep reading during remote learning, and especially encourage our younger readers in Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2, to login to Wushka and read a book or 2 each day, as we recognise that the best outcomes in reading can be achieved when students continue reading at home.
Classroom teachers will share Wushka logins with you, and your child can ask questions in their class Zoom sessions if they are not sure about how to login.
Visit https://wushka.com.au/login to login and start your reading adventure today!
Parents/Carers Count Too - helping your Kindergarten to Year 2 child with counting
Counting the pegs as you hang out the washing, playing dominoes or counting paired up socks by two's, are all ways you can help your child learn about numbers.
One of the first experiences children have with numbers is “counting”. Counting starts as learning a pattern of words, just like a nursery rhyme. As children’s counting develops, they begin to relate the words to a quantity or number of things.
How do children learn to count and use numbers? Children learn the pattern of counting words by repetition. Initially, this pattern may have gaps where the child leaves out a number in the sequence, or the child may invent numbers. It is common to hear a child say twenty-ten after counting to twenty-nine.
However, remembering the words for each number in the correct order is only part of the process of counting. To “count” children need to match saying the number words with the correct number of “things”. Children need to be given lots of opportunities to practise and explore counting groups as well as making groups. Children also need to recognise and name numbers.
See this numeracy resource below for ideas on how to help children develop skills in counting and number. It is available in other languages at this link:

Stage 1 Team Update
What a way to start term 3!

Year 1 have been learning about places around Liverpool and have worked hard writing descriptions about Bigge Park. Year 2 have been learning about the features of informative texts. They have used planning proformas to plan informative texts about Australian animals.
Stage 1 students have worked hard to adjust to online learning and teachers are impressed with their work. Thank you to all our amazing students!
