Curriculum Corner:
Math:
This week we are working on strategies to help us solve addition problems. I want the kids to really grasp these strategies using smaller numbers so they will be able to apply what they've learned when the numbers are much harder. The strategy mat below is what are studying and making in class. When we finish, I will add these to your child's homework folder so they may use their strategies to help with homework for the year.
Reading:
We will begin Guided Reading next week. This year your child will not be brining home their guided reading book. They will, however, be allowed to bring home two books from my library they can read with you at home.
Science:
Magnets continued.
This week our focus will be:
- Analyze and interpret data from observations and measurements to describe the properties used to classify matter a solid or liquid.
- Develop and use models to exemplify how matter can be mixed together and separated again based on the properties of the mixture.
For homework Thursday your child will be asked to create a mixture of items at home. An example of this would be:
- Snack Mix
- Small toys that can be separated
- different types of beans
- etc.
They will bring their mixture bags in on Friday for us to try to separate during class.
Birthday lunch for August and September birthdays will be this Friday, September 11th.
Reminder: Our lunch is from 11:20-11:45
