Principal's Message:
Dear Weibel Families,
Our staff at Weibel are so appreciative of all the care and appreciation we received during Teacher/Staff Appreciation week. I would like to also take this time to thank all the families who have donated to our prep teacher and staff gift collection. More than 25 staff members received a gift from your generosity. For example: Science/Computer/Music/PE prep teachers, librarian, office staff, custodians, nurse, cafeteria staff, resource staff, speech therapist, psychologist, yard duty, and crossing guards. Special thanks to Fahria Khan for collecting, purchasing, and organizing this event. Our staff together would like to thank all of you!
It’s hard to believe that we now reached the last few days of school. It’s been a tough and challenging year, yet we all made this into a valuable experience and persevered. Thank you so much for all your patience and trust during this year. I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate our 5th grade students that will be promoted from Weibel this year and moving on to Horner Middle School next fall.
Have a wonderful rest of the school year and hope to see everyone next school year! Enjoy your summer and see you back on August 17, 2022. We will have more information for the fall when we return back from our break.
Thank you,
Ms. Lee

from the Librarian
Hello Weibel Families,
This year has been an unusual whirlwind of a year! Our students have done a wonderful job whenever they came to the library. You would be so proud to see how attentive they listen to stories, how engaged they are with discussions afterward, enthusiastic they are when finding books to explore, and responsible they have been in returning their books on time. I feel so lucky to be Weibel’s Librarian! Unfortunately, with the end of our school year comes the closing of our school library. Below is a list of important library dates:
May 9th thru 13th - Last week of Library Checkouts
May 16th thru 20th – All Book Returned
May 23 thru 27th – Scholastic Book Fair in Library
Please contact me know if you have any questions.
Thank you for a wonderful year,
Mrs. Hawks
Hello Wildcat Parents,
Summer is almost here! After a long year of uncertainty and hard work, it is time for some rejuvenation for ourselves as parents as well as for our children. Take time to be outside (and moving) and encourage your child to identify how they feel when they do this. Talking about the positive feelings that come with this can help teach our kids the impact of sunlight, nature, and movement on our body and brain. The essential skill of self-care is often forgotten when we are busy. Practicing it while we have more time, helps engrain in us that it is a necessity in-order to thrive academically as well as socially and emotionally. It is amazing how much better we are at dealing with stress, disappointment, and other people when we have paid into our "self-care bank". You may also consider teaching your child mindfulness skills as a way to regulate emotions and reduce stress. The California Healthy Minds, Thriving Kids Project has some great videos for parents to share with their children.
Need ideas for family time or solo activities for your kids, here are some Screen Free Activities that can use your child's time in an explorative and mind-engaging way.
You may also be interested in the upcoming virtual and free Positive Parenting Conference taking place the week of May 17-24. It is a great way to get quick pointers from a variety of professionals on dealing with discipline, your child's anxiety (now or to prevent/reduce it in the future), managing your own emotions when your child pushes your buttons, dealing with screens, and more.
I hope that you all have a wonderful summer! If there is anything that you need before the end of the school year, please let me know! I look forward to working with you and your children in the Fall.
Sincerely,
Christel Andersen

Volunteers May Return to Campus March 1, 2022
At its February 9 meeting, FUSD’s Board of Education voted to allow volunteers on campus under guidelines included in our COVID-19 District Safety Plan that go into effect March 1, 2022.
Volunteer opportunities are offered at the discretion of each school.
Starting March 1, volunteers will be able to enter FUSD facilities after meeting the following criteria:
Volunteers must have approval of principal/designee and teacher to enter a classroom.
Volunteers must provide valid photo identification.
Per FUSD Board of Education action on February 9, 2022:
Only one volunteer per classroom is allowed on campus at a time.
Volunteers must complete a health/symptom screener.
Volunteers must provide proof of vaccination:
Per Alameda County Public Health (ACPH), people are considered fully vaccinated 2 weeks after their second dose in a 2-dose series, such as Pfizer or Moderna, or 2 weeks after a single-dose vaccine, such as J & J. The vaccines must be authorized either by the Food and Drug Administration or World Health Organization.
Find more information about providing proof of vaccination status per ACPH: English | Spanish | Chinese
FUSD will re-evaluate this policy in April to determine if more/less restrictions may be needed.
Noon Supervisors Needed.
Here are the hours:
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday - 11:30am-12:40pm
Wednesday - 11:00am-12:40pm
QUARANTINE INDEPENDENT STUDY
Please contact our Weibel Office staff if you have questions.
We know that many of you have had to quarantine your student due to COVID symptoms. To ensure that we have continuity of instruction, and support students during this time, the district is offering short term and long term independent study options. Per Assembly Bill 130, students who are quarantined due to COVID symptoms and will be out of schools more than 3 days, will continue to receive educational opportunities through a short term independent study contract. When the school district requires a student to quarantine, a student/family will be given a packet of grade level work and a short term independent study contract to complete. When the student returns from the quarantine, the completed packet and independent study contract should be returned to the school site. In the case that a student has been quarantined for longer than 14 cumulative days, a student/family will be offered a long term independent study contract. Long term independent study will be conducted by a virtual teacher. The child will attend online classes daily for a check in and assignments will be given. Families will be given two links. One link for the Parent Agreement for the Long Term Independent Study and one link from the virtual teacher. The Parent Agreement is a form that must be filled out in order for your child to participate in long term independent study. We appreciate your compliance with completing both documents
