IREAD-3

Parents/Guardians of third grade students:

Please mark your calendars to remind you that students will be taking IREAD-3 during the week of March 16-20.

We plan to have students complete the practice test on Monday, March 16th, then take the IREAD-3 assessment on Tuesday, March 17th.

Attendance on those two days is extremely important.

Elementary Track

Attention 3rd-5th grade students and parents!

Elementary track will be starting soon.

Registration forms are due back to the VFES office by Wednesday, March 18th.

Practices start the week that we return from spring break.

Meets will be April 17th, April 27th, May 8th, and May 14th.


We still need a coach for the VFES team, so please contact the VFES office or email the track coordinator, Jason Kendall (jkendall@scsd2.k12.in.us), if you are interested in coaching.

Scott 2 Elementary Soccer

If your child is interested in playing soccer with the Scott 2 elementary program, there will be an Elementary Soccer Parent Meeting on Tuesday, March 10th in the SHS Commons at 5:30 p.m. Registration will be open from March 9th through 19th. Registration forms will be sent to VFES and need to be returned to Kathy Napier in the front office. Please contact Brandon Jerrell (bjerrell@scsd2.k12.in.us) if you have questions.

Club 316

Club 316 is open to every student who is enrolled at Vienna-Finley Elementary School. Club 316 meets from 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month, so the next meeting will be on March 10th.

It is not too late to sign up for this extracurricular opportunity. Please contact the VFES office at 812-752-8925 if your child is interested in participating.

Also, if you signed a permission slip for your child to attend Club 316, but do not want him/her to attend the activities on March10th, please call our office by midday on Tuesday, March 10th so we know what the after school plan should be for your child.

4-H Hosting a Nature Camp

The Nature Camp is open to students in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade. The cost is $10 for current 4-Hers and $25 for non 4-H members.

Walk-a-Thon

The VFES Walk-a-thon will be on Friday, April 17th.

Packets were sent home with students last week.

The parent emails also went out last week. Please check your spam folder if you didn't receive the email in your inbox.

Money is due by Friday, April 10th.

ILEARN

Parents/Guardians of students in third, fourth, and fifth grade:

Please mark your calendars to remind you that the ILEARN window is April 20th through May 15th. We plan to do the majority of our testing between April 27th and May 8th.

Attendance during these weeks is extremely important.

Arbor Day Contest

All third, fourth, and fifth grade students are invited and encouraged to participate in the Arbor Day Contest. Students can create a poster and/or an essay.

Teachers will share additional details about this opportunity during the coming weeks.

Kindergarten Round-up

On April 8th from 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. and April 9th from 2:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. we will have our Kindergarten Round-up for students who will be eligible to enter Kindergarten during the 2020-2021 school year.

More information will be coming soon, but keep these dates in mind if you have a child that will be coming to Kindergarten in the fall.

HERO Points Redemption

The next opportunity for students to redeem the HERO points that they've earned this school year will be Friday, April 10th. The HERO cart will come to each classroom during reading intervention time on that date.

Upcoming PTO Meetings, Events, and Box Tops

Mark your calendars for the Walk-a-thon, which will be held on Friday, April 17th. More information is available in the Walk-a-thon article in this newsletter.


The spring book fair will be held from April 13th-17th. Students will visit the book fair during their regular library time throughout the week. The book fair will also be open during first recess on April 17th.

Registration is happening now for Scott County youth leagues (t-ball, baseball, and softball).

Badges and Lanyards

Vienna-Finley students received name badges and VFES lanyards on January 8, 2020. They use the badges throughout the school day to get a meal in the cafeteria, to check out books in the library, and to be awarded HERO points in the classrooms/hallways.


Students are wearing the school-issued lanyards and badges at school, but are not taking them home at this time.

Reminder About Toys at School

Please remember that students should not bring toys to school unless they have earned a coupon from the HERO cart.

We appreciate your cooperation with this expectation.

Disney on Ice

If you are interested in purchasing tickets to the Disney on Ice Worlds of Enchantment show at KFC Yum! Center on April 9-12, please check out this link for additional information.

The deadline to order is at noon on Friday, April 3rd.

Scott 2 Calendar Changes for the 2019-2020 School Year

Our next Scott 2 PD event is Wednesday, April 22nd. School will begin at 10:00 a.m. on that day in order for teachers to participate in professional development.


Please see the attached letter for our updated school calendar. It includes a two-hour delay on September 11th, November 20th, and April 22nd as well as a two-hour early dismissal on October 9th, January 29th, and May 20th.

School Messenger Text Messages

Our school utilizes the SchoolMessenger system to deliver text messages, straight to your mobile phone with important information about events, school closings, safety alerts and more.

You can participate in this service just by sending a text message of “Y” or “Yes” to our school’s short code number, 67587.

You can also opt out of these messages at any time by simply replying to one of our messages with “Stop”.

We have an Eventlink subscription that assists us with getting information to its users. It is used district-wide, so it is especially beneficial to families with students in multiple buildings.

Reminder About Fast Food

Please remember that students cannot have fast food at breakfast or lunch. We have noticed a handful of students bringing fast food to breakfast recently. If your child eats fast food for breakfast, please have him/her finish their meal before coming in the building.

Reminder about the Start/End Times for our School Day

The school day begins at 8:00 a.m. at Vienna-Finley Elementary. If your child is a car rider, please make sure to drop him/her off in time to be in class by 8:00 a.m. each morning.

Our school day ends at 3:00 p.m.

Car Rider Tags

If your child is a car rider and you don't already have the hanging tag for your rearview mirror, please stop by the office this week or let us know how many to send home with your child. Our new dismissal process flows much smoother when you have the car tag ready/displayed for the faculty members who are helping with dismissal. We genuinely appreciate your cooperation.

General Dismissal Information

Before and after school, parents should drop off and pick up students via the doors on the west side of the building. The only times that parents should drop off or pick up students via the front doors are during school hours (due to appointments, illness, or other circumstances that would cause students to miss part of the school day).

The YMCA After School Program

The YMCA is offering an after school program to VFES this year. Parents must complete a registration form at the YMCA in order to get their child(ren) signed up for the program. The cost is $10 per week. The program is currently full; however, parents can still register their child to be put on the waiting list.

Volunteer Opportunities at VFES

Throughout the school year, there will be opportunities for adults to volunteer at VFES. In order to be eligible to help with events, chaperone field trips, and volunteer throughout the school, the first step is to complete and submit a Volunteer Registration Form, which is located in the office.

After that form is submitted, you will receive two emails from KidTraksSupport, one with the log-in ID and one with a link. You must thoroughly complete this process or you will not be eligible to volunteer in any capacity.
