Reading - "Hoop History" Students must underline to 'prove' their answers (due Tues 1/19)

Language-plan a narrative/ Descriptive word page

Science- Conductors and Insulators

Math- Homework went home on Monday and is due Thursday. Multiplication of 4's quiz on Friday.


Reminders: Be sure your child has Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, and Black crayons. We will be completing the 6 flags of Texas and some things can't substitute for the real deal!

Reading - Mrs. Goldman

Hope you all had a fabulous break with your families. We finished our Drama / Readers theater unit right before the break. We will be having an assessment next week, so I will be reviewing the drama terms later this week.


We have started reading a short novel called Edward's Eyes. We are reviewing our signposts from earlier in the year. You can check the 4th Grade Canvas homepage for a link to a list of these.

Students will continue to have reading workshop. During this time they are reading their own personal choice novel. Please encourage your student to bring their novel to school and read it at home as well.

Language - Mrs. Treat

We spent Monday using Canvas to review Revising and Editing. You can look at the module (January 11th) to see what we focused on. We will take a revising and editing DLA Wednesday. Students who need extra help on either of these will be invited to participate in a tutoring group to be formed soon.


Aside from that we have been "showing, not telling" and creating some narratives to start the year. Look for adverbs and dialogue to make their way into our writer's craft.

Math - Mrs. Eubank

Welcome back to school! I hope you all had a wonderful break and are getting back into the swing of things. Last week we began our unit titled, Algebraic Thinking. We started with creating strip diagrams to represent equations and using letters for an unknown quantity.


This week we are reviewing input/output tables by finding the relationship between the number pairs. We will also be using formulas to find the perimeter and area of squares and rectangles.


Please encourage your child to study their multiplication and division facts nightly. By the end of this nine weeks, students should know all facts, 1-12, fluently.

Science - Mrs. Moore

Welcome back to 2016! We are continuing our studies on soil and changes to land. We completed a lab on soils ability to retain water and its effect on plant growth. We are now investigating changes made to land by different types of weathering.

Social Studies

We are beginning to studying some famous Empresarios (Moses Austin, Stephen F. Austin)
