I want to highlight the amazing day our school had on Wednesday. This was our first House Day and is part of the House System we implemented last school year. In this system, all K-5 students are sorted into 4 different houses: Anchor House (yellow), Bridge House (green), River House (blue), and Wheel House (orange). Each of these houses has students from every grade level.
If you are familiar with the Harry Potter books or movies, you will have a great understanding of the House System. Our goal with this is provide our students opportunities to forge new friendships and relationships beyond their grade level and homerooms. For our older students, this provides them opportunities to be leaders, good role models, and support younger students. For our younger students, this provides them opportunities to make friendships with older students and learn how to model good behaviors that they see.
Our day started in the gymnasium with an all school assembly. All staff and students who were sorted into Houses last year remained in their same Houses. Our new teachers, new students, and Kindergarteners were the focus at the start as they were individually sorted into their respective Houses, showered with confetti, and received an amazing cheer and welcome as they ventured to their new Houses! In addition, we keep all siblings in the same House!
Following the sorting process, we had a short dance party and then each House went outside to learn their new House chants. We returned to the gymnasium shortly after, shared our House chants with one another, did our school chant, and finished by cheering, "4 Houses, 1 Family!"
I love our House Days. These days are filled with relationship building, fun activities, and great opportunities for our entire school family to get to know one another better. Our next House Day is scheduled for Tuesday, November 22 and we encourage each student to wear their House colors that day!
Have a wonderful weekend,
JAGH

Another reminder...PLEASE send your student to school with a warm coat, gloves/mittens, and a hat. It is very chilly in the morning!

Thanksgiving is the perfect time of year to talk about and teach gratitude. Here are some simple ways to instill thankfulness in our children:
-Ask your children about the highs and lows of their school day. What went well? What went right? Focus on appreciating the positive.
-Thank your children often even if they’re doing required chores or activities you requested of them. Let them know you notice and appreciate their effort!
-Encourage your children to write or draw thank you notes or pictures to friends, family, teachers, etc.
-Look for positive moments in your day. Point out the things around you that are positive (sunny skies, warm weather, fall leaves).

This week 3rd grade students put their knowledge to the test with the multiplication exercise, emphasis on exercise. We took all of the multiplication strategies we have been working on including songs from youtube, skip counting methods or our ability to double a given number to solve an equation. We used teamwork to solve our equations and fun visuals and we were able to sort and solve all 80 cards! We would also need to do an exercise card from time to time. Can't wait to do this activity again!
