Lawrence Elementary

Preparing for the 2021-2022 School Year- Part 1

Reminder! Reminder! Reminder!

Communication between home and school is critical. By now, you should have received an email with directions and a special link to complete the Annual Student Update.

You must complete this yearly update process before your student can receive class schedules and start school at Lawrence Elementary School for the 2021-22 school year. If you do not have internet access, computers are available at every school, the district office, and your local library.

Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District is in its eleventh year using an online system to enroll and update student information electronically. The forms are customized to each student and through a single centralized online process parents are able to:

  • Review and update essential student information on file
  • Provide crucial emergency information
  • Indicate vital medical information
  • Complete parent consent forms

To ensure security, you will be provided with a personal identification code or snapcode. For families with multiple students in our schools, you will find this system eliminates redundancy and saves you time.

If you need assistance, please contact Erin Van Schaack at evanschaack@lvjusd.org.

Principal Message

Dear Families,

Our mission and vision statements at Lawrence Elementary help guide everything we do. As our mission states, “Each student will graduate with the skills needed to contribute and thrive in a changing world.” The year of 2021 definitely presented challenges, but the students, staff, and parents of Lawrence Elementary persevered and accomplished the unimaginable. Labradors united and exemplified the true meaning of a team. We are excited to continue this momentum with new members on our team!

As we embark on the 2021-2022 school year, we will focus on the gratitude we have for one another and our commitment to thrive. In doing so, our staff, students, and families will continue to apply The Leader in Me framework and principles. The Leader in Me is based on Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits. Although children must be knowledgeable when they graduate, they must also be healthy, engaged, responsible, and caring people. As each child discovers and develops their unique gifts and talents, they are given opportunities to lead. As leaders, they become active, engaged partners in their own education and their self-confidence, responsibility, and initiative grows. The children quickly understand the benefits of different gifts and talents; they learn to listen to new ideas, work together to achieve results, and motivate one another to be the best.

It takes a team to accomplish something meaningful and significant for all. As we experience the 2021-2022 school year together, please remember I am just a phone call or email away. If I may be of assistance to you, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Warm regards,

Kristie Starkovich

Important Information and Guidance Regarding Returning to School

Our district is fully committed to welcoming all students, in all grades TK-12, back to school and in person on August 24, 2021! The 2021-22 school year will include full time school days on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays and early release on Wednesdays. In order to do this as safely and effectively as possible, we will be adhering to the following Alameda County Public Health Department (ACPHD) and California Department of Public Health (CDPH) guidance:

  • Face Masks: As of August 3, 2021, The Alameda County Public Health Department’s Health Order No. 21-03 states that everyone 2 years of age and older must continue to wear a mask, regardless of their vaccination status, in indoor public settings and businesses. When in outdoor spaces, masks are recommended, but optional. At this time, our District does not plan to require masks outside.

  • Physical Distancing: Prior physical distancing requirements ended on June 15, 2021. According to CDPH, and consistent with CDC guidance, “recent evidence indicates that in-person instruction can occur safely without minimum physical distancing requirements when other mitigation strategies (e.g., masking) are implemented.”

  • Vaccinations: COVID-19 vaccinations are not required for students, but are strongly encouraged for those aged 12 and up. All other State-required immunizations for school remain unchanged. Please ensure your student is up to date with all other required immunizations before the start of school.

  • COVID-19 Positive Case & Exposure Protocols: The attached document from the Alameda County Office of Education provides a roadmap for how positive cases and exposures will be handled. You will notice that quarantine protocols differ for vaccinated and unvaccinated students.

  • Visitors: Current CDPH guidance recommends that schools “limit nonessential visitors, volunteers, and activities involving external groups or organizations with people who are not fully vaccinated, particularly in areas where there is moderate-to-high COVID-19 community transmission.” Events such as orientations prior to the start of school will be designed to allow for parental attendance and limited volunteers. Volunteers should be prepared to show evidence of vaccination in order to ensure the safety of our students.

  • Cleaning & Disinfecting Protocols: With the low risk of transmission from surfaces and shared objects, our cleaning and disinfection protocols remain unchanged from last year. CDPH guidance states, “cleaning once a day is usually enough to sufficiently remove potential virus that may be on surfaces.” Air filtration systems were all updated and have been maintained. In the event of a positive case exposure, additional cleaning and disinfecting measures will occur.

  • Educational Alternative: Families desiring an alternative to full time, in-person instruction for their student(s) can enroll in our district’s Independent Study Program through Vineyard Alternative School for grades 1-12. To do so, please complete an Intra- District Transfer Request. *Note: For students in special education, the decision to transfer to independent study must be made by the IEP team. Please contact your student's case manager if you are interested in independent study.

  • Universal Free Lunch: Our Child Nutrition Department is excited to share that all students, regardless of family income, can receive a daily school lunch free of charge for all instructional days in the 2021-22 school year! While a free and reduced lunch application does not apply this year, completing the Alternate Income Form can result in students qualifying for additional benefits such as Pandemic EBT, scholarships for placement exams, and discounted internet service.

More information will be provided throughout the coming days and weeks. FAQs are being developed and will be shared via email and on our district website. Use this link for updated information.
