Utku Mert
- An international student from Istanbul, Turkey
- Graduate Research Assistant at UWB
- A Software Developer Intern at PlayStation Network (part of Sony) in Summer 2016
Interview with Utku
- Internship Achievements
At the beginning, he was assigned to do an important development task. His manager was pleased with his performance, and he was put on another big project, PlayStation Vue on Apple TV. His codes were used in the launch of PlayStation Vue on Apple TV in November 2016. That is the time when Utku felt successful about what he has been working on during the summer.
- What It Feels Like After Reaching an Achievement
When Utku was a young child, he loved to play PlayStation. Therefore, he was really excited that he could work for PSN. Now, with his achievement at PlayStation Vue in Apple TV over the summer, he is really proud of the fact that he had the opportunity to participate in one of the biggest projects at SONY.
- Tips for Searching for Internship Opportunities
One tip that Utku would share is that as an international student, it is really important to do research. For example, he did a lot of research about the companies that he was interested in and then within a month he applied to more than 100 companies. He also strongly recommends participating in some research projects at UWB. In addition, a tip when applying, put the most important information on the first page of the Curriculum Vitae (CV), such as some outstanding achievement or previous experience. It will help the interviewers to know more about your achievements and the field that you can work on.
ยท Skills that International Students Should Focus on
Utku feels that it is really essential to be prepared for the interview. For the interview, he prepared for about a whole quarter, helping him perform well with his knowledge of the field that he learned and experienced.
