Flipped Online Learning Platform Showcase

CiTi will host an online learning platform showcase by organizing vendors in a flipped vendor showcase experience virtually through a zoom meeting.

How this works:

Step 1: Watch the videos on the flyer and browse the link for each vendor prior to June 24. All resources are located on the Flipped Online Vendor Showcase Flyer.

Step 2: Join us for a 30 minute Q&A with each vendor on June 24 from 8-12. 15 minutes after the vendor Q&A will be used for participant discussion without the vendor present.

NOTE: This will be Ed Camp Style – if you are not interested in a vendor, just mute your video/audio or leave the meeting and come back for the next vendor.

This 35 minute pre-recorded webinar provides professional development in the science of reading for elementary paraprofessionals. The webinar focuses on Decodable Text: what it is, why it's important, and how it can be supported in small group instruction. Pausing points for reflection and practice are built-in throughout. This webinar may also serve as a refresher for any educator or as an onboarding resource for new hires.

WRITE Center Summer Learning Series for Secondary Teachers- FREE

WRITE Center is a national center based at the University of California, Irvine. The center is committed to sharing evidence-based practices for teaching source-based argument writing in secondary classrooms. Their summer learning series event is scheduled virtually in July and is free. Fill out the google form to get the live links prior to the event. Session topics include remote learning (Dr. Troy Hicks), narrative writing (Kelly Gallagher), poetry writing (Carol Jago), and Designing Academic Writing Assignments for ALL Learners (Jim Burke). Book Study: The Inner Work of Racial Justice: Healing Ourselves and Transforming Our Communities Through Mindfulness

Monday, July 20th, 9am

Onondaga Lake Parkway

Liverpool, NY

This book profoundly shows that in order to have the difficult conversations required for working toward racial justice, inner work is essential. Through the practice of embodied mindfulness--paying attention to our thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations in an open, nonjudgmental way--we increase our emotional resilience, recognize our own biases, and become less reactive when triggered. Join this four meeting book study to engage in discourse to move ourselves and our communities towards equity. We will hold our 4 core meetings at Onondaga Parkway. An informational meeting to address book distribution and materials needed for each meeting will be held on July 20th, 9:00 am via Zoom.

How to Lift Social Emotional Learning Skills from Fiction and Nonfiction

We integrate trauma-informed practices to explore character development. Trauma Sensitive Mindfulness

Thursday, June 25th, 9am

This is an online event.

Trauma sensitive mindfulness means we have a thorough understanding of trauma and mindfulness. Bringing these concepts together at the classroom or personal practice level involves understanding how these concepts can complement or conflict with one another depending on application. Join me at this introductory level session to explore ways to make mindfulness work for all populations. We will begin and end the session with example experiential mindfulness practices that embody trauma sensitive mindfulness.

Cultivating a Mindfulness Practice through Writing and Meditation

Summer is the perfect time to nourish and develop new habits. Together we will meet over a series of days at Onondaga Parkway (for better social distancing) to enrich our personal mindfulness practice. We will spend time writing, engaging in collaborative discourse, and ending with a guided meditation. We will have a mandatory information zoom meeting to further layout the logistics and session requirements. Your hours for this series will be accumulative based on how many sessions you attend. Each session will be 1.5 hours. The Zoom meeting will be June 26th, 2020 at 9:00am-10:00am. The link for this meeting will be emailed 30 minutes prior to start time.

Introduction to Mindfulness Meditation for Educator Resilience - 6 Class Series

Life can feel quite scattered and stressful, even on our best days, let alone when life holds disruption and uncertainty. We tend to walk through our days living in the past or future, rehashing and rehearsing, and spend very little time in the present moment. When we lack awareness in the present moment, we experience consequences such as: We do not realize how our mood can influence our experiences We do not realize we carry tension and stress in the body We miss out on the positive and joyful moments life offers We miss information needed to make wise and loving decisions We hold on to unpleasant experiences for longer than necessary (A Clinician's Guide to Teaching Mindfulness, Christianne Wolf & J. Greg Serpa) Mindfulness Meditation is the intentional directing of attention on the present moment experience with loving awareness. The goal is to rest in this awareness and cultivate an open heart and open mind. This 6 week course will offer the foundations of Mindfulness Meditation that can support resilience and open-hearted awareness.

Please consider joining us for some hard conversations and exploration of the topic of racism. From the Amazon description: Some Americans insist that we're living in a post-racial society. But racist thought is not just alive and well in America--it is more sophisticated and more insidious than ever. And as award-winning historian Ibram X. Kendi argues, racist ideas have a long and lingering history, one in which nearly every great American thinker is complicit. We will have an initial zoom meeting as indicated in this listing. we will as a group determine 3 dates for gathering either online or in person at an outdoor space TBD. Courage to Teach focuses neither on technique, nor directly on school reform, but rather on renewing the inner lives of professionals in education. Courage to Teach® helps teachers: *Renew heart, mind, and spirit through the exploration of the inner landscape of a teacher's life. *Reconnect to one's identity and integrity-identifying and honoring gifts and strengths, and acknowledging limits. *Create a context for careful listening and deep connection that also honors diversity in person and profession. *Create safe spaces and trusting relationships in their schools, with their students and colleagues, and within their communities. *Explore the connection between attending to the inner life of educators and the renewal of public education. Leveraging the Power of SEL for Re-entry

Decades of research inform us of the power social emotional learning has positive student outcomes in academics, emotional intelligence, and long-term life achievements. While much uncertainty surrounds how and when school will reopen,we know that social and emotional learning (SEL) will be critical to re-engaging students, supporting adults, rebuilding relationships, and creating a foundation for academic learning, (CASEL 2020). This unprecedented shift to a new type of learning experience may have a lasting and profound impact on young people's academic, social, emotional, and life outcomes, (CASEL 2020). Together at this half day session, we will provide guidance on leading critical conversation necessary for staff and students upon re-entry and explore actionable recommendations from CASEL to support your reentry plan.
