A Note from the Principal:
There are only 3 weeks left of school and each of those weeks are critical. There are no "free days" or "free periods" as every moment in an instructional setting is paramount. As you can see from the images shared on this platform and our other outlets, school is still in session and we will continue to have purposeful instruction until the last day of school on May 26th.
This week we are on our anchor leg of our relay in the Radical Sprint to increased academic achievement. Our math teachers have prepared a math marathon for all students to engage Monday, May 8th in anticipation of the Math STAAR test Tuesday.
Our campus is closed on all testing dates and we will be a closed campus the last 2 weeks of school as well beginning May 15th.
This month we celebrate Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month. This year's national theme is Advancing Leaders Through Opportunity. We will be highlighting different leaders throughout the month of May using the voices from some of our student leaders on campus.
Well functioning schools can not do so without a well run child nutrition department. We are very thankful for our cafeteria staff and were very fortunate to honor them this past Friday for School Lunch Hero Day.
May 8th - 12th is National Teacher Appreciation Week. Please thank a teacher who you feel has had a positive impact on your scholar. They will certainly appreciate kind words of encouragement.
May 10th is National School Nurse Day. School Nurse Day is celebrated on the Wednesday within National Nurses Week. We will celebrate our Campus Nurse, Nurse Dejua, this Wednesday.
A few reminders and announcements:
- Please encourage your scholar not to take conflict in their own hands through fighting and other disruptive measures such as arguments via social media and group chats/texts.
- Enrollment for the 23-24 school year is now open. This applies to all CHISD returning students. To receive instructions for enrollment, please visit the district's enrollment page found here.
- 8th Grade Activities will occur this year. The eligibility requirements reflect high standards and will be released in separate communication for 8th grade families. The dates for the 8th grade activities are:
- May 10th - Private Event at Redbird Skateland (during the school day)
- May 17th - 8th Grade Crossover Ceremony @ 6:30 PM
- May 19th - 8th Grade Dance @ 7:00 PM
- Please be sure your 8th grader meets the eligibility requirements before paying for any of the cost related 8th grade activities.
- There will be a field day for 6th and 7th graders this year on May 12th. The eligibility requirements are included in this newsletter and were shared via email on several occasions this week.
- Please be sure your scholars are bringing their Chromebooks daily.
- Please encourage your scholar not to leave campus once they arrive in the morning and to leave campus with a purpose if they walk home from school in the afternoons.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership as we continue to prepare our scholars for their very best.
Faithfully,
Dr. Lemons
