Join us for our LPS Secondary UNCONFERENCE!

An unconference is a highly collaborative experience where the learners drive the day! There are no fancy keynote speakers or stiff PowerPoint presentations. We build the sessions for the day based around what we want to learn and share. Get ready to LEARN, USE, and GROW! The conversation starts now at Twitter #lpspd or download our event app.

Unconference FAQ!

How is an unconference different from traditional PD?
  • It's all about our collaborative knowledge; share what you know by leading a session and sharing ideas on the Twitter #lpspd.
  • There is no call for presenters or preplanned sessions. The day is built by us, which means anyone can and should facilitate a conversational session!
  • Voting with your feet is an essential of unconference PD. If a session isn't what you expected or you want to visit multiple sessions during one time slot, there is NO SHAME in making a quiet exit to visit another room.
  • Bring your device of choice to record notes, try ideas, and share via Twitter throughout the day.

So how will I know what sessions are being offered?

We will build the day together using a collaborative Google Doc that will be sent out two weeks in advance. Find a few friends and sign up to lead a conversational session! You will also be able to access session info using our event app that can be downloaded HERE. Until then, feel free to start sharing what you might want to learn or share on the Twitter #lpspd!

What kinds of sessions are typical of an Unconference?

While the sessions should be education-focused, there are no boundaries for what can be offered. Topics can include anything from literacy to special education to technology to classroom management! We design the day! Sessions are typically built around everyone sharing, rather than one person presenting. Here are some successful examples of previous unconference sessions:

  • Everything About Google
  • I Can't Live Without _________
  • Rocks and Sucks
  • Have You Met Ted? Great Ted Talks for the Classroom
  • Breaking Down Education Walls: If I Could...

Do I need to register in advance?

Yes. Please enroll in My Learning Plan for the 'Learning Luau - PD for Secondary Teachers.' You do not need to register for individual sessions.

What should I wear?

This is a comfortable day of learning! Please come casual, and feel free to bust out your Hawaiian gear to celebrate spring! Shorts, flip flops, Hawaiian shirts, and leis HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

What else should I know?

This day is going to be AWESOME! We are going to learn a lot and have fun. We will also have some fun treats for your enjoyment including complimentary Sheridan's ice cream for all!
