Arthritis is not just a disease of old age. Two-thirds of people with arthritis are under the age of 65, including 300,000 children.

Each year, people with arthritis account for 44 million outpatient visits and 992,100 hospitalizations.

You can’t always prevent arthritis. Some causes—such as increasing age, family history, and gender (arthritis is more common in women) are out of your control

How to help ease the pain:

Keep a healthy diet and exercise, make sure you are not over weight because extra weight could cause more damage to the already damaged joint, avoid alcohol and purines. Whatever you do, when you are in pain, don't exercise because it will cause more pain.
