Second Graders in the Library!
Week of August 25, 2014
Off to a great start!
I can't believe it's already the end of the second week of school! I have so enjoyed seeing the second graders again, it's fun to see how they have changed and what they are reading now compared to what they were interested in last year. Wow what changes can happen in such a short time!
Exclamation Mark is not only a fun read and a great book to share with friends but it is on this years Goldfinch Award list! That means that we are already on our way to being able to vote on our favorite book next spring!
Second graders have been practicing expectations in the library the last two weeks and are really impressing me with how much they have grown in the last several months. They are working hard and using the library in a way that allows others to read and enjoy their time here.
At this time second graders have been borrowing two books from our great collection. When they are checked out they are borrowing them for a period of two weeks. They can keep the books the whole two weeks or return them to get new ones each time they visit the library. Of course if a student is working on a book and wants to renew it for longer than the two weeks this is allowed.
Please let me know if you have any questions about anything this year!

This week during library time, the second graders and I shared in some fun with the book, Exclamation Mark by Amy Krouse Rosenthal and Tom Lichtenheld. The poor exclamation mark in this book did not know why he stood out from the others but he finds his voice and learns to exclaim. The second graders are really really good at exclaiming too! We talked about using that same voice when we are reading and see an exclamation point. Hopefully they won't be screaming out the words like we did at story time.
