Falcon Parent Updates
November 2017
We are thankful for our parents!
Falcon Parents,
We are pleased to share a few updates now that we have finished Quarter 1 of the 2017-2018 school year. We have a goal of sharing these Falcon Parent Updates on a quarterly basis. If you have any questions/concerns, our office is here to help!
Dr. Green, Principal
ACA Monthly Updates
In an effort to remind students of our three core values (attitude, commitment, and achievement) Dr. Green and Ms. Lam have created screencasts that will be shared during ALL 5th period classes. This month's focus was on NEST tutorial and cyberbullying awareness and prevention.

Cardboard Arcade
Our 6th grade STEM students built arcade games completely made out of cardboard and hosted their games during both lunches this week. The Cardboard Arcade raised over $200 for the Children’s Hospital of Orange County.
Astronomy Night
On Friday, October 27, Utt's Science team hosted their annual Astronomy night, in collaboration with T-Tech, Tustin High School's Engineering Academy. "Cars and Stars" was a success, tying together their study of motion and forces with their upcoming unit on Astronomy.

First Period Tardies
In an effort to reduce first period tardies, our PBIS team is hosting a class competition for all 1st period classrooms. If a whole class is on time, the teacher will submit a raffle to win his/her 1st period class fast passes for the burger and pizza lines. Please be aware that on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday the first bell rings at 7:45AM, and the tardy bell rings at 7:50AM. On Late Start Wednesdays, the first bell rings at 8:50AM and the tardy bell rings at 8:55AM. If a student has 3 or more tardies to first period in one week, he/she will receive an after school Friday detention. Our goal for the month of November is to reduce 1st period tardies by 20%.
Day of the Dead
On the first of November, the UTT Elective team put together the third annual Día de los Muertos event showcasing student talent in art, music, film, dance, and culture! For two hours, students, parents, faculty, staff, and community members had the opportunity to enjoy, celebrate, and learn about the two day holiday.
Core 7 Outsiders Celebration
As a culminating celebration of the 7th graders' study of the novel, The Outsiders, our fabulous Core 7 teachers, Mr. Harrison, Mrs. Kang-Rodriguez, Mr. Weaver, and Ms. Wolf hosted an event on Thursday, November 9, 2017 that included a BBQ, costume contest and learning experience in which students compared themes from the novel to a Twilight Zone episode in collaborative groups. A big thank you to parents, Debbie Haas and Jayme and Larry Acosta for helping BBQ and serve our Falcons!
