Invitational Play Space
The aim of invitational play is just as the name suggests...to invite children to explore, investigate, create PLAY. Setting up invitations to play (which of course leads to learning) can be a simple way to 'prompt' children to play in different ways with different materials. It can offer children the opportunity to direct their own play, follow their interests, learn more about the world around them, express themselves creatively and use their imagination to extend upon the initial invitation.
Thanks to our fantastic PTA, South Ridge is now able to offer an invitational play space on our playground. Students are already enjoying the stations that encourage mechanics, art, mathematics through puzzles, and engineering themed stations. This is great space to be not only creative, but social. Our students appreciate the new zone immensely!
To help support projects like these, please join the PTA by contacting southridgepta@gmail.com.
Roadrunner Buck Store and Stuffed Animal Drive
Stuffy Drive-South Ridge is having a Stuffed Animal Drive! Each classroom in South Ridge will have a calming corner to help students have a place to go when they need some time to regulate their emotions- we would love to have a stuffy there for them. South Ridge also creates grief bags for families and students suffering a loss and would love to include a stuffy in the bag for the student(s). We would greatly appreciate your donation of a new or very gently used stuffy. You can bring your donation to the front office where there will be a donation box. Thank you!
Community Outreach
provide your student meals for the weekend.
Would you like your student to receive a brown food bag each week to bring home
for the weekend? Each bag contains non-perishable foods (e.g. canned meal, fruit,
snacks, oatmeal packs).
Please sign up to let us know you would like food sent home with your student. Please submit one form per student.

Math Play Every Day
Hexagon Challenge!
We will begin the year with this low risk activity that encourages children to think geometrically, and supports spatial reasoning. Both skills are foundational for conceptual understanding of fractions and reasoning in mathematics.
The Hexagon Challenge became a new favorite at the Minnesota State Fair’s Math-On-A-Stick. So when the Fair was canceled this year, Public Math turned lemons into lemonade by creating a play-from-home version of The Hexagon Challenge.
If you’d like to print one yourself, you can use these files: 11 x 17 version or 8.5 x 11 version. We recommend printing on heavy cardstock and in full color.

In My Heart: A Book of Feelings
By Jo Witek and illustrator Christine Roussey
Have you ever felt happiness, sadness, bravery, anger or shyness? Do you understand what it means to feel that way? Join us as we read a charming story about feelings and emotions. As part of the The Growing Hearts series; In My Heart: A Book of Feelings celebrates the milestones of a child’s emotional development, from conquering fears and expressing feelings to welcoming a new sibling.
Social Emotional Activities
How Full IS Your Bucket? Filling someone's bucket is language used to encourage students to appreciate and give praise to their peers by writing notes and "filling" buckets of their classmates with positivity!
This cute song encourages kids to be bucket fillers and not bucket dippers by choosing to be kind and do nice things for others! Use this song as a daily reminder to children to choose actions that fill everyone's buckets!
