April 2013
Book Week is next week!
We have lots of exciting events planned -- see details below...
This Week - A Free Magazine for all students
These have been given to the school as a promotion for our upcoming Book Week with absolutely no obligation. However, order forms are available from the library if you would like to subscribe.
All about Book Week...
Visiting Authors
Our Authors include:
- Sarah Brennan. She will spend all day Tuesday with us and see every class in the school. The PTA are generously sponsoring her visit. Learn more about Sarah and her books here.
- Martha Keswick, author of the well-known "Max and Mei" and "Pangu" series
- Tony Banhan, author and story-writer
- Paul McGuire, who writes short, narrative stories
- Mio Debnan, non-fiction author of the "Go Kids" travel guides
All classes will have the chance to work with at least two of these authors over the week.
Book Week Character Dress-Up is next Friday
Children should come to school dressed as a book character. We will have a costume parade in the morning after drop off at 8:45 in the downstairs area, so please stay to see your child and their class on parade!
Please don't feel you need to spend a lot of money on a store-bought costume - simple, home-made costumes are best!
Bookazine Book Fair
Bookazine will set up a small 'shop' in the Library on Wednesday and Thursday next week and children may bring money to school to purchase a book for home. Teachers and library staff will be there to assist with this.
Bookazine will also set up a table downstairs on the playground on Friday morning of the parade and after assembly.
Bookazine has generously offered to give the Library 15% in store credit from the total proceeds of the sale - so when your child buys a book, you are helping to purchase new books for the library! We thank you for your support.
Parents are very welcome to stop by with your child any morning, afternoon or to meet your child at lunchtime to look at the books together!
PTA Coffee Morning during Book Week
There will also be a book sale by Bookazine in the morning on the playground at drop-off and after assembly on Friday afternoon. Support your library by buying a book for home (library will receive 15% in store credit from each purchase) or buy a book to donate to the library!
Book Swap - led by the Glenealy Green Team
If your child has one or two children's books at home that are gently used and in good condition but no longer needed, please ask your child to bring the book to school on Monday next week.
Children will be able to swap the book with another to take home! All these second-hand books will be housed in the library and children may come any lunchtime or during class-time to exchange one book for another. The Green Team will be there to help!
The book swap will run every day from Monday to Friday at lunchtime, so your child can swap a different book everyday if they would like to.
Please note: this is an optional activity.
Book Week Fun Competitions
We will have a "Guess The Teacher Reading" competition and a "Guess the Picture Book" competition. Names will go into a hat and be drawn for prizes at Friday's Assembly.
The "Catch Me Reading" photo competition will be voted on by students and some other category prizes will be given.
All good fun!
'Catch Me Reading' Photo Competition!
Ask a family member to take a photo of you reading – somewhere, anywhere! You can get ‘caught’ reading in bed, at the dinner table, brushing your teeth, walking the dog, beside the pool, at the beach, at a restaurant etc – be creative! Photos can be printed out and brought to the school library or emailed directly to Mrs. Oliver in the library – toliver@gs.esf.edu.hk. All entries in by April 12 please.
Story Time every day!
