Language Arts
In Language Arts we are beginning our study of Nonfiction texts. The students are reading nonfiction books and articles that are accessible and interesting. We will begin by discussing how and why authors use text features to share meaning. We will also talk about how good readers connect what they are learning to what they already know. In the upcoming weeks, the students will continue to read and explore the different ways authors organize informational texts.
Grammar
Math
Fractions will continue to be our focus over the next two weeks. Students are adding, subtracting, and decomposing fractions. We are also learning how to find fractions on a number line. A great way to practice fractions at home is to find a recipe that you and your child can make together. Practicing adding 1/4 of cup of this or 2/3 cups of that gives students real world practice with fractions. Talk about how the amounts might change if we doubled or even tripled a recipe. This will also prepare your fourth grader for our measurement unit later this semester. Math can be dirty, fun, and tasty.
College and Career Week
Next week is College and Career Week at Barksdale! During Counselor Classes the students will be focusing on college and career options and brainstorming how each child wants to make a difference when they grow up.
The following ideas will be discussed:
How will you MAKE YOUR MARK on this world?
Help others? Create something new? Start a business? Solve a problem??
How will you make a difference when you grow up???
Cafeteria
Now that the cafeteria is complete, you may now eat in the cafeteria with your child. Please remember lunch with your child is limited to once per semester.
The cafeteria will begin preparing meals at Barksdale again, and the menu will follow the district lunch menu.
