Rose Lane Principal Letter...

Hello, Rose Lane Families and Caregivers:

We have just finished our third week of school, and are so excited about the launch of 2021-2022. Returning to school after 18 months of pandemic has presented some challenges - some typical of any new school year, some familiar due to last years’ experience with COVID-19, and others which are new to us because of the evolving nature of this disease. Thank you for following our mitigation plan, voicing your concerns, bringing suggestions for improvement, and sharing your own challenges with us. At all times, we are continuing to follow the recommendations of the Maricopa County Department of Public Health, which I've included for you in this link to the district website.

Many of you have also been curious about when we will start back up with batch testing. Please look for a reminder which the district office will be sending home today related to this. Batch testing is optional! Please sign up by Sunday at 11:59pm to give permission for your child to participate in Tuesday's COVID batch testing.

It's been wonderful to have our students return to campus, where they have very quickly gotten used to all of our routine events and procedures for lunch, recess, transitions to and from classrooms, as well as our SOAR expectations for being Safe, Organized, Accountable, and Responsible. We have had two high-heat days, during which we keep students indoors and masked, under the supervision of our Cool Kids Recess as well as our noon duty aides and classroom instructional aides. Also, our recent fire drill went very well, with a record-setting time of 4 minutes from start to finish. We are also in the process of screening 100% of students' reading fluency using Fastbridge, as well as working through our beginning-of-the-year MAP testing for each grade level, in both Math and reading. Teachers will share this information with you during our Parent-Teacher conferences in October - although we have already begun using the results to pinpoint the starting place for teaching and learning.

At this time, we have 751 students enrolled at Rose Lane, including 56 in PreSchool, 150 in Kindergarten, 114 in 1st Grade, 148 in 2nd Grade, 143 in 3rd Grade, and 140 in 4th Grade. In addition to the 38 teachers working with our students, we also have 5 paraprofessionals, 5 instructional aides, and two teacher candidates working with us this year, as well as an additional 20 staff members in administration, maintenance, food service, and student services. We are working hard as a school community to make a safe and happy environment for our precious students and staff, so we can focus on learning and growing. Thanks so much for contributing to and supporting our efforts!

News from Rose Lane's Assistant Principal...

Hello Rose Lane Families,

I wanted to start off by saying how tremendously honored I am to be the Assistant Principal at Rose Lane. I truly appreciate working with each and every one of you. As always my goal is to ensure that your children are receiving the very best care, instruction, and support each year.

I wanted to share a couple of updates with you that we are implementing for our PBIS system at Rose Lane. PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports and it is the system we use to promote positive behavior at Rose Lane. Our PBIS system ensures that we are always looking to catch students doing things right. We strive to reinforce positive behaviors frequently and daily so here are a couple of new ways we are doing that this year.

The first new addition to our PBIS system is the use of Golden Tickets. These are tickets that teachers and administration can provide to a whole class when they are caught representing one of the SOAR expectations. You guessed it! They are gold! The students love them and we make a really big deal when a classroom receives one. We also ensure to state the specific SOAR expectation they are showing at the time. The SOAR expectations are Safety, Organization, Accountability, and Respect. Each week we tally up who has the most Golden Tickets for each grade level and these classrooms are presented with a Rocket Trophy to display in their classroom. The winning classrooms also get a shoutout on the morning announcements the following week!

Golden Tickets are the way we will reward whole classrooms this year but we also have a plan for rewarding individual students. For this we will use Rocket Tickets. Students who are caught demonstrating one of the SOAR expectations will receive one of these. The Rocket Tickets are red tickets that the students can then write their name on and provide to their teacher. The teacher will then place these in a small mason jar and at the teacher’s discretion they will pick a random ticket from the jar and reward those students who get picked. These jars will also be used to reward the whole class. When a classroom’s jar gets completely filled then the teacher will reward the entire class.

We are so happy to share the new things we are incorporating into this year to promote positive behavior all around Rose Lane campus. We want your students to feel safe each and every day and we feel that by consistently promoting positive behavior that we can achieve this! Thank you for your continued support and I look forward to a wonderful year with all of you!

Rose Lane Rocket Boosters News...

Hello Fellow Parents and Caregivers.

This new school year is blasting off quickly. We really enjoyed seeing so many of you coming through at our ice-cream and popsicle drive-thru social event, and we hope you and your kiddos enjoyed it too. Mrs. Devine and Mr. Reyes get a special thank you for passing out popsicles in the heat for the whole hour. We were busy the whole time trying to get so many cars through and to give our Principal and Assistant Principal a chance to say hello to you and your students.

We had our first parent forum over zoom with lots of information shared about the PTO and upcoming events. Lots of parents were there and we were so happy to see so many fresh faces. A couple important bits to take away from that is that we still have some open executive positions on the PTO, and we'd be happy to hear from anyone that would be willing to help out. We are also always looking for more members to join in and pledge some of their time as officers. Remember, at Madison Rose Lane, every parent and every person that acts as a parent is considered a member of our PTO, so you are always welcome to join us at our meetings and ask questions and get information. We'll have our next meeting on September 13th and hope to see you there!

Thank you,

Rose Lane Rocket Boosters PTO
