Celebrate Garrett! - This past week, Mr. Stephens (BME Wellness teacher) was announced as INSHAPE's elementary physical education Teacher of the Year! Each year, INSHAPE (state-wide organization) recognizes the work of an outstanding elementary physical education teacher, and this year, it is our very own Mr. Stephens! Congrats to Garrett.

Veterans Day- Preparations are underway, and we can't wait to celebrate Veterans connected to our school family...

• Our celebration is scheduled for Friday, November 11th. Veteran guests and their families are invited to attend.
• Also, Mr. Doublestein is requesting brief video clips from families to compile a video tribute for our program. If you would like to submit a video, they are due by 11/4.

Book Fair - Our book fair is coming soon. Please see information below for volunteer sign up. Book fair will be the week of November 14th.

Lunch Guests - We are now ready to accept "reservations" for lunch guests. Due to limited space and availability, students will meet with (up to) 2 guests in a quiet space away from the cafeteria. As we implement this new system/procedure, we will limit availability the first two weeks to Monday, Wednesday, and Friday visits. See information below for additional sign up information.

Dear Boone Meadow Families,

As part of our Veterans Day celebration I want to extend an invitation for your child to submit a brief (about 10 seconds) video honoring a special veteran in their life. This could be a parent, a grandparent, a relative, a neighbor, or a family friend. I will then edit those videos together to kick off our program at 9:30am on November 11th. That video will also be uploaded to my Bow Tie Music YouTube channel. If you'd like your child to participate in this part of our program, please use your cell phone to record a horizontal video following this outline:

"My name is ___________ and I'd like to honor ___________ who served in the ___________ during ___________ ." They are then welcome to add an optional closing.

Here are some examples:

"My name is Will and I'd like to honor my grandpa Cliff who served in the Army during World War II. Thanks Grandpa!"

"My name is Will and I'd like to honor my brother-in-law Dawson who serves in the Air Force. You're the best Dawson!"

"My name is Will and I'd like to honor my neighbor, Mr. Bowden who served in the Marines during the 1960s and 70s. Thank you for your service!"

The Boone Meadow students and staff look forward to celebrating our American heroes on Friday, November 11, 2022.

• Reception: Our honored Veterans have the option to participate in a light reception which will include a few light treats and drinks. We hope you will be able to join us from 9:30-10:00 in the cafe.
  
• **Veteran guests and their families will be admitted in the building no earlier than 9:15 for the reception/program.
• Program: Our students will present a program to Veterans and their guests at 10:00 in our gymnasium.
• All guests should pre-register by 3 PM on 11/9. (See information below)

#1 - Click HERE to do a pre-registration check-in. It's quick and easy! Pre-registrations must be completed by 3:00 PM on Wednesday November 9th.

• Page 1: Select the green “Next Step” button.
• Page 2: Enter your name & birthday when prompted. When it asks for "Building" select Boone Meadow Elementary. Select the green “Next Step” button.
• Page 3: When prompted for “Person Visiting” enter your student’s name, then type “Veterans Day” when it asks for your “Reason for Visit.”
• It will then ask for the date of the visit. Please enter the date of the actual event, November 11, 2022.
• Disregard the “If you’d like to notify anyone portion…” on this page and hit "Next".

#2 - Upon arrival, signing in at the front desk is necessary to gain admittance to the program.

Lunch Guests

We are ready to welcome lunch guests! Students and their guests will have lunch at designated locations in the front lobby area. Please no more than 2 guests per student due to limited space. So that others may have the opportunity, we ask that you not sign up more than 1 time per month. As we implement this new system/procedure, we will limit availability one more week to Monday, Wednesday, and Friday visits.

Here's how it works:

• Be sure to notify your child's teacher so they are informed to send your child to the front lobby to meet you/guest during their scheduled lunch time.
• Bring a photo ID and arrive 5 minutes early (lunch times are listed on the signup form link above).
• Your child will meet you in the front office area when they are ready.

CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS FOR VOLUNTEERS

We value partnerships with our families and welcome parents and guardians to serve as volunteers in our schools. Each ZCS building typically offers a wide variety of volunteer opportunities. If you plan to assist as chaperones or engage with children in a volunteer capacity, we strongly recommend getting a criminal background check completed well in advance to have on file.

Examples include:

• Field Trip Chaperones
• Out of Town/Overnight Chaperones
• Tutors
• Volunteer Coaches
• Classroom Helpers (PTO parties/room parents)
• Library Helpers
• After Prom Workers
• Field Day/Jog-A-Thon Volunteers
• Book Fair Sales/Athletic Ticket Sales

During the school day, all volunteers are expected to sign in at the front office. Prior to the volunteer opportunity, all volunteers must sign a Non-disclosure Acknowledgement Form and have successfully completed a Full Criminal History Background Check. Volunteers must also view the state mandated confidentiality/bullying video, provided on the Volunteer/BRAVO website.

CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS FOR VISITORS

During the school day, all visitors must enter via the front door and sign-in at the front office. Visitors need to be prepared to present a government issued photo ID which will be scanned against the National Sex Offender Registry. All visitors will be issued a visitor badge/tag to be worn inside the building at all times.

• Classroom Special Events (Grandparent Day/Famous Hoosiers/etc.)
• Parent/Teacher Conferences
