Welcome Back from Mrs. Brune!

It's about that time! I'm always super excited when it comes to starting a new school year! And I'm sure many homes are just like mine when talking about going back to school--groans from the kids, smiles (and maybe a groan or two) from the parents! This summer has been like no other that I've experienced! It's been great to have our school building full of kids for our summer session this month. We've worked very hard to provide a safe learning environment and are preparing to do the same in a few short weeks for all of our students at HES! Our first day of school is on August 24. As we turn our July calendar to August I want to share a few important details with you while you are still soaking up the summer sun!

Re-Entry Plan

Student safety and security is always a top priority of our school district. As we begin our new school year during these unprecedented times, we want our families to know that we take the health and safety of our students very seriously. District administration has created a re-entry plan that works to support our students during the upcoming months. You can find the re-entry on the district website, www.hermann.k12.mo or by clicking the link below.

Welcome to School Mailings

Who will your child's teacher be???

You should be able to answer this question by late next week. Welcome letters and transportation forms will be mailed on Wednesday. (We will not be having a packet pick up this year.) All students who have completed on-line registration will receive letters from his/her classroom teacher and a transportation confirmation form. Please complete the green Hermann Elementary Transportation form for your child and return the form on Open House.

Students must be registered before receiving their letters. If you need help with online registration, please contact the school office. Again, to be assigned to a class, online registration must be complete.

School Supplies

Check out our school supply list for this year! Thank you to our PTO for providing additional supplies for our students. Please bring your supplies to Open House!

Student Handbook/Procedure Guide

Please see the attached Elementary Student Handbook. This handbook is a guide to our practices and procedures at HES. The handbook also discusses important dates, building-wide behavior expectations, and other important items for parents. Should you have any questions about our procedures and/or practices, please contact the office.

Every Minute Counts!

Our school day will begin at 7:50. Students will be late at 7:55 and will need to be signed in. Please plan accordingly because every minute counts!

Morning Drop-Off and Afternoon Pick-up Procedure

Our morning drop off procedure will look just a bit different. First, please note that there will be no parking on the south side (school side) of 7th Street from 7:30-8:30 and 2:45-3:30 each day we are in session. If you need to stop your vehicle, please park on the opposite side of the street, and walk your child across the street at the crosswalk. We will have some staff members on hand to help students out of cars. We hope to unload 3 cars at a time along the curb at our front entrance for students in PreK through 3rd grade. Parents in our ECSE program or our 3-year-old preschool will be asked to unload at the lower entrance.

Parents will be welcomed to walk children to the front entrance on our first day of school. We will not be allowing parents or guests into the building. School staff will greet you at the door and help your child to his/her classroom. This effort is to ensure the health and safety of our students, which is our number one priority.

Our dismissal procedure will remain the same as in previous years. Buses will load, and then student pick-ups will load at the shelter along 8th St. Walkers will be held inside the building with teacher supervision until all pick-up traffic has cleared the area. Again, walkers will be dismissed last.

Thank you for your patience at the beginning of the year and for always following our procedures in order to ensure the safety of all of our students!


This year all students in grades K-3 will be required to pay a $10 usage/insurance fee for Chromebooks. Planner fees will not be collected this year at HES. You can pay your Chromebook fee beginning the week of August 11 using the online payment system on the parent portal or you may pay your child's teacher during Open House.

Our online payment system is easy and user friendly! Our building secretary can help you with online fees if you have any questions!

Breakfast/Lunch prices are as follows:

Student Breakfast $2.15, reduced $.30

Student Lunch $2.75, reduced $.40

These fees can also be paid online!
