The Summit SPARK
SEPTEMBER 2021
September 2021
Dear Summit Families,
This month is:
Check out the link above for more information
Welcome to the 2021-22 school year! Learning is under way at Summit and teachers have introduced our first school-wide PBL (Problem Based Learning) opportunity. Our first PBL will focus on culture and solving the problem of "How can we make Summit a reflection of who we are in a way that honors our unique identities?" Each grade level has developed a grade level appropriate PBL to guide students through possible solutions to this problem. Each grade level will share and learn about the various cultures at Summit. Students will learn what connects us and what makes us unique. If you haven't received information from your child's teacher yet, you will soon. We are excited to share in this opportunity with students and can't wait to see what they create. We want students to love being at Summit Road STEM Elementary and know that it is a place where All Are Welcome (read aloud)!
We will have our 1st Annual Walk-a-thon event on Thursday, September 16, 2021. You have done an outstanding job and I am humbled by your support and generosity for the students and staff here at Summit. I am pleased to say that our fundraiser has surpassed our $10,000 goal and we still have a few days to go before the fundraising ends. Thank you for all you have done to help us reach our goal. Once the fundraiser is complete, an official amount will be shared with families.
Due to limited outside visitors in our building, we will have to limit family participation for the Walk-a-thon event on the 16th. We are asking for no more that 2 parent volunteers per class for the day of the event. Please sign up here. If you have already signed up, your information was transferred to this form. Once the spots have been filled, we can take no more volunteers. Even though the event will be outside, you are required to obtain your pre-registered visitor's pass from the front office AND wear a mask to participate. Please sign up by Friday, September 10th by 5pm. We will do our best to get lots of pictures and share the events of the day with families who are unable to attend.
On the evening of September 16th, we will hold our Curriculum Night. This will now be a VIRTUAL Curriculum Night and no families will be in the building. You will find all the information to participate in the event below.
Summit has been a busy place since the beginning of school and will continue to have more exciting things happening. Stay tuned for more!

RCS Virtual Learning Option 2021-22 School Year
Reynoldsburg City Schools will begin offering a virtual learning option starting the week of September 27, 2021. If you wish to enroll your child(ren) in a virtual learning option for the remainder of the 2021-22 school year, you must complete this survey by 5:00 p.m. Friday, September 17, 2021.
PLEASE NOTE: If you enroll your child(ren) into a virtual learning option, you are committing to this learning model for the entire 2021-22 school year, beginning Monday, September 27, 2021. You will not be able to switch back to in person learning. Conversely, if you choose for your child(ren) to remain in person, you will not be able to enroll in a virtual learning option after the deadline of September 17, 2021. It is imperative that we properly staff both models and to be able to do that, a commitment is mandatory.
K-5 students will be enrolled in a virtual classroom with a licensed teacher and will get support from PAPER for tutoring services, as needed. Students will still use District-purchased classroom resources and curriculum similar to students learning in person. With PAPER, students get homework help, writing feedback, and study support on demand. Teachers gain insights into learning gaps and administrators have visibility into where support is needed.
Summit families who chose the Virtual Learning Option will return to Summit Elementary for the 2022-23 school year.
Welcome to Our Virtual Curriculum NIght
This year Summit will host a Virtual Curriculum Night. Families will be able to participate in our Virtual Curriculum Night and learn more about Summit Elementary, STEM, classroom expectations, our new district-wide assessments, 3GRG, Title I information, and much more! Our Curriculum Night Google Site will go live on Thursday, September 16, 2021. There will be videos and slideshow presentations for you to view that will share some overview as well as live Q&A sessions with the principal and classroom teachers. Our Curriculum Night Zoom sessions will run from 5:30-7:30pm. So grab a device and we will see you there!
