Homer Highlights

Week of November 22, 2021

Dear Families,

Last week, all of our students celebrated an early annual Thanksgiving dinner put on by the Homer Food Service. Students were even surprised with a visit from a special turkey and pilgrim!

This week, there will be no school on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday for families to enjoy the Thanksgiving break. We are grateful for our dedicated staff, our generous and supportive community, and our wonderful group of students that make up our Homer Community Schools family! Happy Thanksgiving!

8th Grade Cleaning Up with the Can Drive!

Homer High School students have participated in the annual Student Council Can Drive to collect food for Homer Caring and Sharing throughout the month of November, with the winning class getting a hot breakfast. Due to the success thus far, they have decided to continue to drive into December. The 8th grade team decided to get into the fun. The entire grade of students has embraced the challenge...collecting 1500 cans just in the 8th grade! Congratulations to all of our students for their generosity!!!

Nurtured Heart Parent Group

Homer Schools is excited to offer a Nurtured Heart Parent Group for parents/guardians of our students. This 6 week program is an opportunity to get energized and feel supported as a parent! The Nurtured Heart Approach is a relationship-focused parenting and educational approach that provides a powerful set of strategies designed to turn a child around to a new pattern of success. The invaluable parenting method teaches how to identify and set clear boundaries while encouraging us to focus on the behaviors, values, and characteristics that we want to see our children carry into their world. This group will be facilitated by our K-12 Mental Health Services Specialist, Bridget Young.
