MIT November Newsletter
Message from Principal Fanourgiakis November 2020
Dear McKinley Families,
Hope everyone is safe and healthy this is MIT's Newsletter for the month of November. I hope everyone is safe and healthy. There has been a lot of discussion about reopening our schools around our district because it is important for staff families and students to return to school. Below are some of the details regarding our district's and MIT's developing return to school plans.
Return to School
As many of you know the district has voted that school can reopen on January 19th. Now that seems like a long time from now but until then the district has been sending out surveys to parents and teachers regarding returning to school in January. If you have not completed the survey please do so because your feedback is very important to the decision we make going forward, here is the link https://rb.gy/s1vtro
I will be sharing family survey results with Site Council and then with the rest of the community once we get all the results next week.
What will the student's schedule look like in January?
There are a lot of unknowns things we are still planning however this is what we know now!
- Classes will return in a hybrid format (2 days live with teachers and 3 days virtual at home)
- 3 Days virtual will look more like today's Wednesday as teachers will only be available to assist in the afternoons.
- Students have to be in pods of no more than 15 kids. (Classes will be split in two)
- Students have to be in the same group all school day no mixing (Teacher will be moving from room to room, not students)
- Half the students will come to school Monday and Tuesday and the other half will come Thu- Friday (to allow for cleaning on Wednesday)
As we get more information we will share it with you
Pilot Class
MIT will be having one pilot class on campus two days a week starting November 9th. Shout out to Ms,. Gertz and her students for volunteering to come back and test it out.
At Least 2 months of Distance Learning to Go
Families and students, we still have 2 months of instruction virtually to go. Students continue to attend all classes and complete all assigned work. Parents continue to ask students questions about their work, contact teachers if you need support or have questions and provide a quiet place for your students to work, We have had a successful distance learning beginning lets finish strong.
