Publishing House, a Sycamore Tradition Speaker Series Zoom this Wednesday
Since the 1970's, students have shared their writing with patrons of our school library. What began as annual collections of poetry, short stories and recipes has evolved into Publishing House (PH). Publishing house supports student authors in publishing stories each year. Physical and digital copies of these works are given to the library and published in our PH Archive. It's time for this year's authors to start thinking about their 2021 submissions!
To get the creative juices flowing, diverse storytellers will share to inspire in our monthly Publishing House Speaker Series. This week, Sycamore’s Publishing House organizer Joanna Lord, will welcome new and returning students and introduce one of her closest childhood friends, the very talented, Taylor Orci.
Taylor Orci is a screenwriter based in Los Angeles who came to television through public radio. Some of her work includes as a writer on the Netflix series, Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts, for three seasons, writing pilots and starring in some of your favorite shows on Comedy Central, and numerous articles for publications such as The Atlantic, Elle, Cosmo, and Vanity Fair. Speaking will be followed by a Q&A session where students can ask questions. Since it is around lunch time, please feel free to nibble and zoom. The Zoom link is available on the Publishing House Canvas page. No need to be a Publishing House author to join; this event is open to all.
Visit the Publishing House website and learn more about Publishing House. Here, students can sign up as a 2021 author, view the PH Archive (Password: sycamore225), and adults can register to support our young authors as PH volunteers. https://www.sycamoreph.org/ph-2021

Scrip, the easy version
Scrip is a gift card fundraising program. When our community members purchase a gift card, a percentage of the purchase is returned to our school. Typically we sell scrip out of the school office, offering both a holiday order and scrip to local businesses. We now have an app that will take your order and accept payment without the hassle of forms and checks. Purchases can be mailed to your home (there is a small fee) or received as e-cards. Please share this information with friends and extended family members so they can join in. Such an easy way to support our school throughout the year.
1. Simply download the RaiseRight app on your smartphone
2. Select "Join a Program"
3. Enter Sycamore’s enrollment code AEFE49A43L158
4. Create your account
5. Follow the instructions in the app to start earning for our school
You may pay with a credit card or by connecting to your bank account. The app's “Pay Coordinator Directly” is NOT an option for our school.
In addition to purchasing through RaiseRight, we have the following local scrip still available for purchase: Eureka Burger, Rhino Records, Starbucks, Stater Bros, Vons, Sprouts, Wolfe’s, Eddie’s, Walters
To place an order for local scrip, please email Centia at Sycamoregovernance@gmail.com.
