All Aboard with Second Grade!

December 2018

Wow, winter break is right around the corner! Can you believe it? We want to thank you for continuing to support your child's education at home by reading with them and ensuring they complete their homework and work on Reflex Math. They should be reading at least 20 minutes every day and practicing math fluency on Reflex daily. Please make sure they continue reading and working on Reflex as much as possible over the break.

Last month was full of learning. We learned all about the American Indian tribes Powhatan, Lakota, and Pueblo. We got to experience the Powhatans' respect for nature at Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens. We got to practice planting seeds, weaving, and grinding corn. We heard a traditional American Indian story and saw a longhouse. It had a hole in the roof so the smoke could get out when there was a fire inside!

We finished our YMCA learn to swim program with a water safety lesson. We learned how to be safe and how to help someone else in the water. We are all much better swimmers after the program!
