Thornhill Elementary PFC Newsletter
Volume 27, Issue 6, September 17, 2019
From the PFC President
We had our first PFC meeting on September 9, and the turnout was great. We had a good amount of new parents at the meeting, and that is always encouraging. In particular, I want to thank our new Hospitality Chair, Alicia Streight, for volunteering to take on this important position. In addition to organizing the night’s childcare, Alicia also set us up with a post-meeting social time at Taps and Takeout, which appears will be regular happening after PFC meetings (next meeting - Monday, October 7).
It’s this kind of parental involvement that makes Thornhill unique: when parents bring their skills to roles that benefit all of Thornhill. And we have some roles on the PFC that could still benefit from your involvement and your strengths. Check out the open positions listed below - we most direly need help with our auction which brings in $100K to Thornhill. And let me know if there are any questions I can help you with.
Mahalo,
Rex Crum

What's going to work? Teamwork!
Yes, it is true—when we all pitch in, we can do great things! That is true in so many aspects of our school community, and the Back to School Donation Drive is no different. If we are able to achieve the goal of 100% participation at whatever amount works for each family, we would easily meet and possibly even exceed our fundraising goal! A little more than a third of families have contributed so far, so if your family hasn't yet, please consider contributing as well. Choose an amount that works for your family as well as a method—check, online or installments—and help us in supporting the amazing programs here at Thornhill!

About the Thornhill Newsletter
The Thornhill Parent-Faculty Club (PFC) eNews team publishes this weekly newsletter each Tuesday in the school year to communicate school, PFC and OUSD news, events and information.
Email submissions to our Newsletter Chair, Evie Nagy, at newsletter@thornhillschool.org by 8 p.m. Thursday for approval—nothing sent after this will be included in the following week’s newsletter unless there are extremely compelling extenuating circumstances. It’s fine to include text in the body of the email with links and no formatting, and attach photos preferably as 150 x 150, 72 dpi JPG or GIFs only (not embedded in email or Word file). Submissions may be edited for spelling, grammar, brevity and clarity. Advertising and items not related to Thornhill are not accepted, as we need to keep the newsletter focused on need-to-know info for the community.
THANK YOU to everyone who submits articles and to PFC Board Members, Teachers, VP of Communications Erin Proudfoot, PFC President Rex Crum, and Principal Steve Daubenspeck. Member of Oakland Unified School District (OUSD).
