Letter from the President
Hello AACE members,
I hope your year has gotten off to a great start. I want to thank each and everyone of you for making the decision to become a part of AACE and give a special shout out to all of our new members and to those who decided to rejoin for 2015-2016. If you haven’t renewed your membership, please do so by the conference. Membership renewal is available online or by mail.
Our board officers and committees have done a great job so far with planning our membership drive, Annual Workshop, held in January, Annual Conference, and Publications (newsletter, website, etc.). Serving as president has been a rewarding experience for me. Any time I needed help, I was able to call on many of you and you were there to offer your time and assistance. Special thanks to those of you who have stepped up to take on responsibilities of other board and/or committee members who were not able to complete the remaining year. You could have said no but you said yes and you have done an awesome job.
I encourage our new and old members to take part in AACE. Whatever your skill or expertise, the association can benefit from you. I look forward to the remaining year for AACE and all that is to come. Do not forget about our Annual Summer Conference, which is Tuesday, July 26 – Thursday, July 28. Registration is open and proposals are being accepted. Please be mindful of deadlines. For more information visit www.aaceal.com. Everyone is encouraged to attend. Let us make this year the best year ever for AACE in attendance.
Once again, thank you all for what you do for AACE.
See you in July.
Baisha Woody
2015-2016 AACE President

Spring Career Fair Reflections
Athens State Career Fair
Auburn University Career Fair
Athens State Career Fair
Athens State University
Shared by: Saralyn Mitchell
Athens State held their Spring Career Fair on March 31st, 2016. It is a combined Teacher Recruitment and College to Career event. On a morning filled with rain and thunderstorms, we welcomed sixty-two employers and school systems who shared information about internship programs, full and part-time positions, and their interviewing process. It was a great learning opportunity for the over 160 students and graduates who attended. They made valuable connections. We were thrilled with the event results considering the terrible weather and challenging conditions. Here are some comments from the day:
- “Excited about talking face to face with school administrators” - student
- “Great opportunity to network” – student
- “Organized, students well prepared” - school system
- “Friendly busy event, would have liked sunshine!” - employer

Employer Update
Verizon Wireless
The recruiters from the Verizon Call Center in Huntsville have been working on a series of recruiting events geared towards students, alumni and military candidates.
In March they hosted an Open House which consisted of an Employee Panel and networking. The Employee panel highlighted employees from the center who have progressed to various positions such as HR, Tech Support and Leadership. Each employee were alumni from local colleges and universities such as Calhoun Community College, Athens State, UNA, UAH, A&M and ITT Tech. The panel spoke about their experiences and career progression within Verizon and how their education had assisted them with their careers.
Verizon will also be hosting an “Externship” on April 15th at the Huntsville Call Center. This will be a half-day event in which candidates will hear from representatives from various departments in the business, such as Retail, B2B, Customer Service, Tech support and Events & Planning. One of the Verizon Solution Architects will be onsite to demonstrate some of the technology and business solutions the company offers. The event will also include some fun games and prizes!
