Westwood Families,
There a few things that fall brings in Minnesota each year – honeycrisp apples, the bright colored leaves, and the MEA break. Next week, October 12 – 16, there is no school for students. Staff will be working next week. We will be planning for and engaging in parent teacher conferences, and engaging in professional learning focused on developing students’ academic and life skills as a part of our approach to personalizing their learning.
Parent/teacher conferences for Westwood will be held via WebEx meeting and over the phone.
Families will receive an email from the teacher(s) who work with your child with information on how to sign up for a conference with your child’s teacher. The email will be sent out to parents by the end of the day on Monday, October 12. We have a few key objectives for these conversations. We want to partner with you to:
- understand how we can best support your child’s learning
- learn about who they are as a person and learner
- develop some next steps together that will support your child at Westwood
We look forward to these conversations and hope you do, too.
As we head into the fall break, we continue to monitor Anoka County 14-day COVID-19 case rates. Last week, in data we receive weekly from Minnesota Department of Health, Anoka County was reporting 20.78 cases per 10,000. This places our learning model firmly in the state’s guidance for Modified Campus (hybrid) at all grade levels (20-30 cases per 10,000). This is our current base learning model along with the ongoing option for Extended Flexible Learning (distance learning).
We will continue to look to the future, closely monitoring case data and following guidance in the Minnesota Safe Learning Plan. We ask that our entire community continue to follow public health guidance to help support our schools in remaining open.
Have a restful fall break. We look forward to seeing our students on Monday, October 19 both in person and online.

Principal
