Team Thomson News & Notes

Important Information for You!
And the School Year was Down to 5 Days and Counting....
Well, here we are, the last week of school! I sincerely can not believe how quickly the year has went by. As we head into this last week, I encourage you to be patient with your students, stay the course in regards to expectations, provide engaging activities and opportunities for your students, and have fun with them. As you interact with them, remind yourself..."What do I want he/she to remember about me?"
Again, thank you for a wonderful school year! I appreciate the dedication to our kids, school, and community...way to go Team Thomson!
As you know, Monday, June 19th is our PTO Sponsored Color Run. Please be sure to be on the track ready to go just like last year at the start of your time (see below if you are unsure). Students will run/walk for approximately 20 minutes. After the Color Run, each student and staff member will get a free Kona Ice, again, sponsored by our PTO. Parents have been invited to come and watch, but must do so from inside the playground fence. Although it is not supposed to be quite as hot as field day, staff are welcome to again wear shorts and their Thomson Staff or Davison t-shirts.
Classroom Color Run Times:
10:15 a.m.- Mrs. Chorley’s preschool students
1:15 p.m.- Mrs. Howes, Mrs. Pietras, Mrs. VanEvery, Mrs. Lambaria,
Mrs. Driskill, Mrs. Holland and Mrs. O’Brien
2:15 p.m.-Mrs. Bell, Miss Ross, Miss Kellie, Ms. LeMieux, Mrs. Lints,
Ms. Wheaton, and Mrs. Williams
5D+ End of Year Meetings & Formal Evaluations
As I shared last week and again in a Google Doc, due to the limited time between getting student growth data and the end of the year, Anna will be scheduling meeting times with some of you and we will be getting a floating sub for Tuesday, June 20th in order to get all the meetings in. I anticipate it taking approximately 30-45 minutes for meetings that include a Formal Summative Evaluation. If Anna does not set up a time for you, you can assume that I will meet with you June 20th. There is a very small chance that I may need to meet with some of you the afternoon of June 22nd or 23rd, but this will be avoided if at all possible.
You should have received an email of Eric Chorley last week with your classrooms student growth data. If there are errors, please come prepared with the corrections.

Decrease Classroom Clutter to Increase Creativity
I am strong proponent of getting rid of clutter in the classroom and the school building as a whole, something the office staff and I are going to be working diligently on this summer. I believe this article is a great read at a timely part of the school year. The biggest reminder I can give is that the classroom is a place for learning...not a place for storage. Take time to read this very timely article.
2016/2017 PD Summaries
PD summaries have been sent to all teachers. Please review them immediately and let Sharon Hazard know of any discrepancies. Additionally please review the PD guidelines outlined in your teacher employee handbook to understand how many stipend and non-stipend PD you need to have. (Just because you have 58 hours of PD may not mean you have the appropriate number of stipend/non-stipend PD hours and my find yourself facing disciplinary actions in the fall.) If you have any questions regarding this, please see your building reps. It is also important to remember that Kevin Brown has to pre-approve all PD, make-up PD, and prorating PD if you were on an approved leave of absence. Make-up PD for 2016/2017 must be completed prior to teacher's first work day of 2017/2018 in order to receive credit. Summer PD may be credited toward the current year or next year by designating on the top of the form. The district will pay $12.50/ hour up to an additional 45 hours beyond the district's 30 required hours of PD, so that may help you decide which year you want it applied to. PD will be paid out in accordance to the DEA contract.
Again, thank you all for a great year!
Please watch for a welcome back letter in early August, until then have an amazing summer!
