Volunteers
As you may have seen in the district update or my email yesterday, volunteers may return to Walled Lake Schools beginning on October 1 on a limited basis. Over the last year we have worked very hard to keep our school open and our students and staff healthy. While we are very excited to see volunteers back in our school, we also want to ensure that we have a plan in place that continues to ensure the health and wellness of our students, staff, and community.
I ask that you please do not reach out to teachers at this time inquiring about volunteer opportunities. Our classroom teachers will contact parents about any future volunteer opportunities at the appropriate time. I will be in contact regarding building volunteer opportunities soon.
Please contact me directly if you have any questions. Thank you for your patience and support.
Volunteers needed for PTA Trunk or Treat
We are looking for some volunteers to help with the Trunk or Treat! If you are interested in helping support the event, please email one of our PTA Board Members. The Trunk or Treat is on Friday, October 22.

Food Service Supply Chain Issues
Please see this message from Julie Fortner, our food service director.
You have been noticing many menu changes for breakfast and lunch. Due to nationwide shortages for food and food supplies, we are not getting a lot of our planned items in stock (food and paper products included). With that being said, we will continue to update our menu online at https://wlcsd.org/food-service/ as these changes happen. Please note, sometimes we do not know that a product is out of stock or short until our truck arrives without it. I know this can be frustrating and I apologize for the challenges this may cause.
Masks
This clarification on masks was just added to the district FAQ this week.
What types of masks are permissible?
The District is happy to provide a disposable mask to any student who needs one. For those choosing to bring their own, please wear cloth masks with:
- A proper fit over your nose and mouth to prevent leaks.
- Multiple layers of tightly woven, breathable fabric.
- Fabric that blocks light when held up to a bright light source.
Note that this criteria is based on CDC and OCHD guidance. See the updated FAQ document linked below for other information.
Open Positions in Walled Lake
We have many open non-certified positions here in Walled Lake. Click here to access existing, available positions and sort by Walled Lake Consolidated Schools. Visit the Human Resources employment opportunities page on the District website for more information. Assistance with the job application process on-line can be made available.
Viewfest
Earlier this year Viewspire, LLC was created by co-owner (Glen Schwartz) and clinician (Nikki O’Donnell) of Viewpoint Psychology & Wellness. The goal is to re-invent the way that mental wellness skills and support are provided within communities. Viewspire has done this by building positive, culturally integrated, accessible and approachable programs that will reach kids on a more impactful level than ever before.
Viewspire intends to further our efforts to Re-imagine Mental Health at Viewfest on October 9th at Walled Lake Central High School. This, first of its kind, psychologist curated community event, includes fun, engaging and impactful activities for children, teens, young adults and families. The festival will be highlighted by breaking a WORLD RECORD using Viewspire’s Hug Buddy postcards and hosting an interactive tribute center for those lost to the tragedy of suicide. Some of the day’s fun includes live entertainment, food trucks, presentations, raffles, auctions and much more! Click on the link below for more information.
Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
All families that are picking up students at the end of the day must sign up for Car Rider or Shamrock Pick-Up this school year. Signs from previous years will not work as we are running a different system this year. If you have not signed up yet and gotten yellow 2021-22 dismissal signs, please call our office.
As a reminder, if your child's normal dismissal routine changes for the day, our office needs to be notified no later than 3:30.
Late Buses
From time to time our buses may run late; however, a bus will always come to pick up your child. If the bus is running late, please call the late bus hotline for updated information. All late buses will be listed on the hotline if the driver is running TEN OR MORE minutes late.

Authorization to Administer Medication Form
If your child needs to have medication administered at school, parents must complete an AUTHORIZATION to ADMINISTER MEDICATION FORM. We must have an updated form each school year.
Please click on the link to view. Print out and complete the form. Please drop it off at our main office as soon as possible. You can also email it to our secretaries Diane Yanalunas or Laura Edwards.
HEALTH SCREENING BEFORE YOU COME TO SCHOOL
We continue to urge all families to check your child's health daily and make decisions that will help ensure we keep our students, staff, and community healthy and safe.
Daily Health Checks: Please check your child(ren) daily for ANY signs of illness before attending school. Check for the following symptoms:
- Fever/Chills
- Cough
- Fatigue
- Shortness of breath/difficulty breathing
- Muscle of Body Aches
- Headache
- New loss of smell or taste
- Sore throat
- Congestion
- Runny Nose
- Nausea or Vomiting
- Diarrhea
If your child has any of these symptoms, please err on the side of caution and keep them home until they are feeling better! We appreciate your partnership as we continue to work together to keep our community healthy and safe!
