Principal's Update - March 28, 2022

Mission Statement

North Pole Middle School believes all students can succeed because education is a shared responsibility between students, home, school, and community in that this partnership provides students opportunities for personal and academic growth in a safe and supportive environment.

Hello Parents and Families

Spring has finally arrived! The sunshine and warm temperatures are a welcome change as are dry roads, I hope this email update finds you and your family well. April is always a busy month in the school system as we begin state testing, looking towards the end of the year and the beginning of school for the 2022-23 school year. Here's what's happening in the coming weeks.

Parent Participation In Accreditation

The Fairbanks North Star Borough School District is pursuing organizational accreditation and North Pole Middle School is a direct part of that process. Various stakeholders (admin, faculty, students and parents) within North Pole Middle School will be interviewed the week of April 4th to aid in this process. I need 3 parents who are willing to participate in a small parent forum via zoom on Thursday, April 7 from 1:30 - 2:15 p.m. During this forum you will be in a meeting with other NPM parents and parents from Ryan MS to answer questions posed to the group by Cognia Learning Systems who is evaluating the district. Zoom links and further information will be provided.

Please email Roxane.holmes@k12northstar.org if you can help.

Purple Up!

April is the "Month of the Military Child", we are so proud to live and work in a community that supports our military families. Look for information in the coming weeks regarding a Spirit Week to be held the week of April 11 with Friday, April 15 being "Purple Up Day" (purple is the designated military color for April). Fun fact, the color purple was chosen for Month of the Military Child because it symbolizes all branches of the military, it is the combination of Army green, Coast Guard blue, Air Force blue, Marine red, and Navy blue.

Thank You!

A big THANK YOU to the following parents who assisted us in our rewards event on March 10th. Your time and talents are invaluable to us!

Near the end of the school year we'll have another opportunity for parents to participate in chaperoning students on our walking field trip lunch. This is always a very popular event with the kids, more information will be coming in the next few weeks.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns please don't hesitate to reach out to us.

Paint Night Success

Congratulations to Social Service Manager (SSM) Gissell Cravener for a successful family paint night event. Thank you to all of the students and families that participated as well.

Morning Drop Off & Afternoon Pickup

Just a reminder to please drive safely, cautiously, and respectfully when dropping your student off in the morning and picking up in the afternoon.

Bus Deviations

A bus deviation is a request for your student to ride a bus that they aren't registered for already and that they don't usually ride.

A few helpful hints on how to request a bus deviation:

  • It MUST be requested in writing via notes, email (contact-npm@k12northstar.org) or fax to 907-488-9213. Students may NOT write their own notes.
  • If you send one by email, you will get a reply saying we received it. If you don’t get a reply please call 488-2271. Bus deviations must be submitted by 1:00 p.m. If it is an early release day bus deviations must be submitted by 11:30 a.m. If you submit an email after 11:00 a.m., please call to confirm receipt.

-Your request needs to have the following information on it:

  • Your student's name
  • Bus number (route) and the name of the street it stops at (if you don't know this, you can call the transportation office at 907-452-2000 and select option 4)
  • How long the deviation is good for (just that day or for the whole school year as needed)
  • Parent's name and contact information
  • Our fax number is:(907)488-9213
  • Email requests to: contact-npm@k12northstar.org
