Principal's Message

Hello Jesmond Public School community!

Last Monday, we welcomed our 2023 Kindergarten students into the school. It was great fun. They had a wonderful time learning in the classrooms and meeting some new friends.

Year 5 Parents

Selective High Schools cater for academically gifted students with high potential who may otherwise be without sufficient classmates at their own academic standard. Selective High Schools help these students to learn by grouping them with students of similar ability, and by using specialised teaching methods.

If you would like to have your child considered for Year 7 Selective High School entry in 2024, you need to apply on the internet using a valid email address (not the student’s email address).

Detailed instructions on how to apply and the link to the online form will be available in early October 2022 at

You must submit only ONE application for each student.

The Selective High School Placement Test will be held on Thursday 4th May 2023.

Applications opened on 18th October 2022 and close on 16th November 2022. You must apply before the closing date.

Please contact Mrs Neil if you have any further questions.

Newcastle Permanent Maths Competition

Last Term, Stage 3 students participated in the Newcastle Permanent Mathematics Competition. All our students tried their best, and as a result, we received some fantastic results.

In Year 6 - 1 student received a distinction and 1 received a merit.

In Year 5 - 1 student received a high distinction, 1 received a distinction and 6 received merits.

A special congratulations to Isaac in 3/4W who received a Newcastle District Award for his high distinction result in the Year 5 test.

Certificates will be handed out at this Friday’s assembly. Parents are carers are invited along to see their child receive their special award.

ICAS Competition

This year students were given the opportunity to participate in the ICAS assessments. These assessments were voluntary and required an entry fee for students to participate. Students from Jesmond Public School participated in science, digital technologies, spelling bee, mathematics, writing and English.

Congratulations to all our award winners.

PLEASE NOTE: Results for the mathematics competition have been delayed. When they arrive, they will be presented at assembly.

Year 6 Pizza Fundraiser

Year 6 have started their fundraising to raise money for their end of year gift to the school.

The first fundraiser that has been organised is a pizza lunch which will be held this Friday 4th November at 11am. Orders closed on Monday, 31st November, with 171 students purchasing a pizza and drink combo. Year 6 are amazed at the response they have received for this event and would like to thank students and their families who purchased a pizza and Jesmond Pizza Hut for their continued support. A profit of $271.90 was made.

Keep your eyes peeled for two more exciting fundraising events organised by Year 6 in the coming weeks.

Have a wonderful week.

Deborah Kelly

NSW Premier's Spelling Bee

On Friday 4th November, Isaac from Stage 2 is heading to Sydney to represent Jesmond Public School in the state final of the NSW Premier's Spelling Bee. Isaac competed at both a school and regional level to qualify for the final which will be held at ABC studios on Friday morning. Isaac will be competing against other regional finalists to determine the state's top speller in the junior competition. We are all very proud of Isaac and wish him well.

Jesmond Public School Parents and Citizens (P&C) Update

The P&C met early in Term 4 and have some exciting developments. Our Pyjama Day fundraiser in August raised $145. Thank you for all those who were part of the fun and brought in their gold coins.

Our next fundraiser will be a Scholastic Book Fair in Term 4. We want to thank Mrs Mitchell, who will be organising the fair with profits going to the P&C.

Finally, we are looking forward to the Christmas Concert on Wednesday 7th December. We need help to run a sausage sizzle and sell other food and drink on the evening. If you are able to assist, please send a message through our Facebook group Jesmond Public School P & C or email the school office with your details and how you can help and someone from the P&C will be in touch with you.

The P&C have discussed a variety of options to spend the money that has already been raised, including paying for the Year 6 medals and contributing towards the cost of fixing the sound system in the school hall. If you have ideas for ways we can support our school community, please come along to a P&C meeting. Our next one will be the Annual General Meeting held at the start of Term 1, 2023.

From Lorelle and the P&C team.
