Week at a Glance
Marian Central Catholic High School Faculty Newsletter
December 9, 2018
Thank goodness for a full week of school! I am sure it really allowed all of you the ability to to work closely with your students in wrapping up the end of a unit and making sure they have a solid understanding of the material prior to exam week. Thank you for all your work one-on-one with students who struggle, for making sure your gradebooks are up to date, and continuing to make your classroom one filled with Catholic love, respect, and values. (It's also wonderful seeing the Christmas spirit alive and well all around the school!)
Hopefully Tuesday's Late Start PLC time was productive as your team continues to work together to align the curriculum vertically and horizontally, build solid year-long-plans, and build UBDs that are meaningful and of high rigor. Administration was happy to respond to Faculty with our Academic At Risk list, as it was explained Tuesday and received on Wednesday. Hopefully this list will provide you with additional information that will allow you to meet each student's individual needs. If you have additional information about a student that might explain why they are facing poor academic acheivement, please reach out to Guidance and/or Administration so we have a complete picture of the student and can address their needs accordingly. In addition, each department received your 2018-19 Book Lists to review revisions for the 2019-20 school year. Course fees (including any tech fees) due Jan. 15 and finalization of books aer due prior to spring break.
Finally, the week rounded out with NHS's Rise Up Conference on Saturday. As our NHS student leaders took the reigns of the event, themed "Exploring a New World of Leadership," about 50 middle school students learned about leadership and service.
Looking ahead...
A quick reminder... with exams in mind, please review the general parameters for Exam Procedures, including the necessary forms to have prepared for grade meetings.
Please also note these important dates...
- Review and update gradebook
- Study Guides & Exams to Novy, Dept. Head, & Mr. Taylor by Dec. 12
- Parent Portal shuts down by 8:00 am Wednesday, Dec. 19.
- Please sign up here to reserve your grade meeting slot.
- We are anticipating that the Parent Portal will reopen Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2019.
This Wednesday we will be celebrating our last All School Mass of the first semester. Mass will celebrate the Feast of Guadalupe. This Feast recalls Mary's appearance to Juan Diego, a Mexican peasant in 1531. You might have even heard of the many pilgrimages and celebrations the surrounding Mexican communities have enjoyed each year! What a beautiful way to celebrate the Christmas season!
Speaking of celebrations, this Friday the entire Staffulty of Marian Central will be enjoying our annual Christams breakfast at 7:00 am in the school's cafeteria. Please come enjoy the hot, catered food and a pleasant Christmas atmosphere!
Have a wonderful week!
