Welcome Back Message From Dr. Taylor

Hello and welcome to the 2022-2023 school year!

I am Dr. Chris Taylor, the new principal at Riverside Elementary and am honored to lead a school with such persevering students, an extremely dedicated staff and a supportive school community. I hope this note finds you enjoying the rejuvenating days of summer and that your children are looking forward to beginning a wonderful school year on August 17th. I can assure you that I share this school's community commitment to caring for your children each and every day while providing them a world-class learning environment.

The 2022-23 school year will mark my 29th year in education. I have taught all grade levels from 2nd grade to 9th grade and have recently worked at the district office as the supervisor of science, computer science and sustainability. I firmly believe that the partnership between home and school builds confidence in students to use their abilities to shape their future and the future of our community.

Dan Knight, our assistant principal, and I will send newsletters monthly to share information about all the happenings at Riverside. These newsletters are to inform you of important dates and events. Please also visit our school website to access the calendar and other information.

In closing, please know that my door is open to you. I heartily welcome your conversation and positive input throughout this year. Let us always keep our students the primary focus of our work and I look forward to celebrating our collective successes during the 2022-2023 school year. Message From Nikkel Holmes

Hello wonderful Riverside Community–

Welcome back! I hope that you all had an enjoyable summer break. I am excited to see the students buzzing through the building soon!

I wanted to take a second to introduce myself and my new role at Riverside Elementary. My name is Nikkel Holmes. I’ve had the opportunity to teach Kindergarten at Riverside for the last seven years. I am eagerly embarking on my 17th year in education in a new role as the Student Centered Learning Coach. I will be forming partnerships and collaborating with teachers as a support to empower our students to take learning risks and reach their learning potential. We will have meaningful and effective discussions around learning intentions and targeted learning goals to support student learning. Together the teacher and I get to constantly look at student evidence to support ALL students through the learning process to produce growth for all. This focus on student learning takes effort, but it is powerful work. Our students are worth it!

In an effort to define this new role of a learning coach and correct any misconceptions, I have briefly listed what I will (and will not) be doing this year.

Here is a quick overview of what student-centered coaching is (and is NOT):

Student centered coaching is….

  • An opportunity for the teachers and myself to form a partnership to impact student learning.

  • Guided by learning targets and success criteria based on standards.

  • Analyzing student evidence to guide instruction and promote student growth/success for ALL students.

Student centered coaching is NOT….

  • Evaluative—that’s the Administrator's role–Thank goodness! :)

  • Me telling teachers what to do or how to teach

  • A “fix the teacher” mentality

At Riverside we believe ALL students can learn and grow. Our goal is to empower ALL students to take ownership of their learning as we support them along the way.

If you have ANY questions or want to know more regarding what my role looks like for your child, please reach out any time.

I look forward to seeing the children and families next week!

Sincerely,

Nikkel Holmes

Attendance notes from the front office

If your child is not going to be at school, please email riversideattendance@boiseschools.org or call 208-854-5980 and leave a message. A child's absence is marked as "unexcused" until we hear from the parents.

If you need to check your student out for part or the rest of the day, please come to the front entrance, ring the doorbell, and present your ID. Mrs. Gates or Mrs. Zambetti will call your child down to the office.

As school gets underway this year, we understand many of your children's extra-curricular activities may have to be rescheduled. We ask that you be mindful of your child's learning experience and try to hold off any sports or music lessons until school is out. Too many checkouts at the end of the day can interrupt teachers and can cause the student to miss important information.

Drop Off-Pick Up Protocol

There are two areas for students to be dropped off and picked up. The main drop-off line is on the main entrance side, where the Bown House is located (Victory Road).

If you are dropping off or picking up, please make sure you are always moving up with the cars. Please don't turn off your car or get out. It can get backed up quickly and to help the neighbors and students have a safe experience, please be mindful of your place in the line.

The other drop-off location is the Bown Crossing side. This area can get congested very quickly, so please consider dropping your students off near the library and letting them walk the rest of the way. We will have staff helping kids cross any of the roads safely.

Changes coming to School Lunch for 2022-23 School Year

For the last two years, school meals have been free for all students nationwide through special federal funding. That funding has expired and meals will return to regular pricing for the 2022-23 school year. As we get closer to the school starting this fall, an application will be available to help with lunch payments, based on income eligibility.

To check for assistance eligibility, please fill out this form.

Any other info, including daily menus can be found HERE.

MySchoolBucks is where you can make payments to your student's lunch account; cash and checks are also accepted in the lunch line.

Prices for the 2022/2023 school year are as follows:

-Breakfast $1.60

-Lunch $2.60 (This includes the entrée, fruit/veggie, and a milk)

-Milk $.75 (if they want a second milk)

Visitor Protocol

ALL visitors and volunteers must go to the main entrance and ring the doorbell. Mrs. Gates or Mrs. Zambetti will let you in and give you a visitor badge. You will need to provide a driver's license for your visitor badge and will need to sign out upon your exit. We thank you for your adherence to this policy.

School Supply Lists

Please click HERE for your child's classroom school supply list.

If you would like to donate more supplies, feel free to drop those items off with the front desk anytime during school hours. We appreciate our generous community so much!
