From the Desk of Rock Creek Counselor Michelle Solberg

Many of us are looking for creative ways to celebrate the holidays this year because we are trying to stay safe and healthy during this time. Last week, my intern and I introduced the students to a variety of gratefulness practices. (Look for the recording of the lesson on your child's Seesaw or Canvas account.)

Below you will see a link to a guide that you might want to consider purchasing that is a holiday survival guide. There are many helpful thoughts and ideas in this guide about how to share your holidays during a pandemic.

The families from our school that receive help for the holidays are helped through Sunset Presbyterian Church. Some people have asked how they can help other families for the holidays. There are many ways to help others during the holidays.

Here is one option through Sunset Presbyterian Church.

Three easy ways to give:

1. Donate unwrapped toys / gift cards at our Toy Drive, Sunday, Nov 29 from 11:30 – 2:00. Pull up near the church office and we will unload your donation, while remaining socially distant and safe. We will also collect unwrapped toys curbside near the church office on Tuesdays, Dec 1 and Dec 8 from 9 am – noon.

2. Shop online from one of our wish lists or registries, and it will be delivered directly to the church’s toy team.

o Amazon

o Target

o Piccolo Mondo

1. When ordering online, please select the Bethany Village Location and type “for Sunset Presbyterian Church” in the notes section.

2. Prefer to order by phone? Call the store at 503-617-0250 and ask for Kris or Brenda.

3. Donate financially online to Food & Toy.

We are asking for toys and supplies in the following categories:

Truck & Cars

Games & Puzzles
Art Kits & Supplies

Building Sets

STEM (science, tech, engineering, math)

Superintendent Grotting Announces Middle School Boundary Decision

Superintendent Grotting has accepted the recommendation of the MSBA Advisory Committee on a new middle school boundary map with no amendments. He has also accepted the MSBA Advisory Committee’s recommendation to offer a legacy option to students who will be entering 8th grade in the 2021-22 school year to remain at the middle school that they attended during the 2020-21 school year.

In addition, Superintendent Grotting has approved two program changes that impact middle school students:

  • The Rachel Carson School of Environmental Science will be relocated from Five Oaks Middle School to Cedar Park Middle School.

  • The SUMMA program will be expanded to the Timberland-area middle school, in addition to the programs that already exist at Meadow Park, Stoller and Whitford Middle Schools.

For the full report including projected enrollment numbers, please visit the Middle School Boundary Adjustment webpage.
