Lion King, Kids! 🦁👑
This type of performance is unique among elementary schools. There are many obstacles for children to gain access to the arts at this age: cost, transportation, lack of interest due to lack of experience, family responsibilities or challenges, etc. As an arts charter school, it is important to us that our students experience the arts beyond what they would receive at their home district, without any of these obstacles being a factor.
The Lion King, Kids! musical is one that is traditionally cast with students who audition to participate and meet after school hours to rehearse prior to the performance. While our students did audition for roles, all students who wanted to act, were able to do so. All who wanted to dance, sing, work on costumes, backdrops, makeup, audio or visual support, props and advertising were also able to do so. In all, there were over 130 students involved in this production! It is my hope that they were inspired to continue their creative exploration in the arts, whether they are with us next year, or moving on to middle school!
I am thankful for everyone involved, especially our parents who devoted their time to help us with last minute props during some late evenings and on the weekend! This having been our first large-scale production, we have much to reflect upon and improve for future performances. We appreciate everyone's support and understanding while we managed the many unknown factors. We are already receiving suggestions for next year's musical and while no decisions have been made, I am definitely excited for next year!
Field Day! 🌞
Some Important Reminders:
- We will not dismiss students from the park. Our focus will be on keeping all students safe and engaged and we will not be able to confirm authorized pick-up persons as we can in school.
- If your child is being picked up early, please tell your teacher now, so regardless of their class schedule, we can make sure they are back at school on time.
- There is no rain date. Barring severe weather for Wednesday, we will plan on going. Should we decide not to go, you will be informed.
- Please apply sunscreen before your child leaves for school. We cannot apply it for students as it is considered a medication.
- ALL students are being provided shirts the morning of Field Day! They are pre-washed and color-coded by grade level so they can wear them at the event.
- Your teacher will confirm if you have been cleared to chaperone. Please do not plan to attend unless you have received this confirmation. All confirmed chaperones should report to the school at 8:00 am.
- Students must wear sneakers to participate in the activities. No sandals or slides.
- Water bottles are being provided, but all students are encouraged to bring their own refillable water bottle. There will be some water relays and indoor activities to keep the children cool!
- If students are packing a lunch, that is the only other thing they should bring to field day. Nothing else is needed!
- Our nurse will be in attendance at the field.

Your child will be bringing home a Data Card this week to confirm your contact information. Please help me keep in touch with you by ensuring your contact information is correct. At various times over the summer, I will post information on our website, Instagram and Facebook, or send messages via e-mail or phone.
I am also on Class Dojo and Remind! I am setting up grade level classes for Class Dojo, but in the meantime, you can join my Remind class at this link: https://www.remind.com/join/b4cad
