Mirror Mirror On The Wall, There’s a Leader in Us All!

Arrival/Dismissal Procedures
Reporting an Absence
Watertown Unified School District recognizes personal illness, severe illness or a death in the family, religious observances, extreme weather conditions, required court appearances, and health appointments as reasons for excused absences. To ensure that medical absences are considered "excused", please provide a doctor's note for any appointments or medical situation requiring an absence. Students must have a note from a physician from physical education for any health reasons.
Students are considered LATE if they arrive at school after 7:55 AM. After 9:00 AM, students are considered absent. If students return to school before 11:30 AM, we consider the students absent one half day (morning).
If a student is to leave between 11:30 AM - 2:00 PM, they will be considered absent for one half day (afternoon). Students leaving after 2:00 PM, but prior to the end of the school day will also be noted through attendance as "leaving early", which will be considered LATE for the afternoon.
Students are considered truant if they were absent without an excuse from the list above OR a parent does not notify the school on/before the day of the absence. Truancy by a student, as well as contributing to truancy by a parent, is a violation of both State and City Law. A doctor's note should be provided to the office whenever possible. After 10 absences a doctor's excuse will be required to have the absence excused.
Thank you in advance for helping to make your student's attendance a priority. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Mrs. Wendt.
Breakfast and Lunch Information
WUSD Families, Nutrition Services has made some operational changes with respect to service and distribution of student meals based on district updates to the adopted safety guidelines and protocols for the 2021-2022 School Year. Please carefully review and share relevant information with your student(s).
WUSD Nutrition Services is pleased to once again be offering FREE breakfast and lunch daily to all in-person learners for the duration of the 2021-2022 School Year, regardless of income and/or eligibility for free or reduced meals.
While an approved USDA Free and Reduced Meals Application is not required in order to receive free meals in 21-22 SY, we continue to encourage families to apply. Free and Reduced eligibility data is collected by the district for educational funding/grants and may allow eligible families to qualify for additional benefits, including Pandemic FoodShare Benefits (P-EBT). If you feel that your family may qualify, please complete the 21-22 application and return to your child’s school office or the Nutrition Services Office at Watertown High School.
You can access the free & reduced meal application and information about Summer P-EBT here: http://www.schoolnutritionandfitness.com/index.php?sid=0103102234130625&page=lunchapps (Application) https://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/publications/p03049.pdf (Summer P-EBT Flyer)
We remain committed to providing quality school meals as the district continues in Face-to-Face Instruction for the upcoming school year. With the discontinuation of Virtual Plus Instruction, we have also discontinued our curbside meal pick-up option, and we will instead focus solely on our on-site meals program with the goal of transitioning students back to a more traditional school dining experience.
Breakfast Grab ‘n go breakfasts will be offered at all grade levels. Elementary breakfast will be distributed in the classroom each morning in most cases.
Lunches will be traditional school meals. The menu will be limited to ONE daily entrée option at the elementary level. The majority of elementary classrooms/grades will be going through the cafeteria serving line to pick up their lunch and return to their classrooms to eat. Teachers will survey student lunch choices and submit daily counts electronically. Milk choice will be offered to all classrooms that pick up their meals in the cafeteria.
Snack milk will not be available this year. Students are encouraged to bring a water bottle to use and refill throughout the day.
Please note that any potential shifts in instructional models as determined through the monitoring of health data may also require shifts in district food service operations. We remain hopeful that we will be able to continue to travel the path toward a full return to pre-COVID operations as the year progresses.
IMPORTANT NOTE FOR STUDENTS WITH FOOD ALLERGIES: If your student needs special accommodations for a food allergy, we strongly recommend that you contact the Nutrition Services Office to make prior arrangements. A signed medical provider statement/form is required to be on file with Nutrition Services for all special meal accommodations. Additional information on special dietary accommodations and the medical provider form can be found here: http://www.schoolnutritionandfitness.com/index.php?page=allergy&sid=0103102234130625
Please feel free to contact Nutrition Services with any questions via phone at (920) 262-7536 or via e-mail at prices@watertown.k12.wi.us. We look forward to the return of our students in a few short days!
