4th Grade Annual WRITES 2023 Competition
Our 4th Annual Rolling Readers WRITES 2023 Competition is open to all eligible 4th-grade elementary students within Brevard Public Schools!
FREE to ALL participants, Rolling Readers WRITES is fully endorsed by Mrs. Jane Cline, Assistant Superintendent, Elementary Office of Leading & Learning.
At its core, Rolling Readers WRITES is a writing competition open to all eligible 4th-grade elementary students. Students will have the opportunity to develop their writing talents by creatively writing and submitting their stories, with the qualifying stories reviewed by a judging committee, and three winning stories published! All winning stories are competing for a monetary prize in the form of a Florida Pre-Paid Savings account. Last year $1,700 was awarded to the 1st through 3rd place WRITES/DRAWS winners who ALL came from Brevard County Elementary Schools’ population of 4th-grade students! Can you imagine how exciting it was for the student’s families, their teachers, and school administrators to see these elementary school students receive, in essence, scholarship monies to set them on the road to college?
There is NO ENTRY FEE involved.
In order to participate, teachers and students must complete the following steps:
The contest rules sheet and entry form, along with pertinent information are attached.
Step 1: Teachers - Please ensure that your 4th-grade students receive the information, contest rules, and entry form no later than Wednesday, December 21, 2022. This will allow the students time to work on their stories over Winter break…
Step 2: Students - Students should submit their stories by the deadline, with completed entry forms, to you (the teachers) no later than Wednesday, January 25, 2023, to allow time for teachers, or designated Site Coordinators to forward entries to us using the BPS Courier system in time. Address: Palm Bay Magnet High School, Attn: Rolling Readers Space Coast – Portable #27.
Judging is scheduled for February 6 through February 10, 2023, so it is important that we get the entries in on time…
Once the winning stories are selected, they will be published in a book entitled Rolling Readers WRITES Vol. 4.
Winners will officially receive their awards at our annual spring event Space Coast River Jam, scheduled for Saturday, May 20, 2023. This extraordinary night of celebration will be held at Cocoa Riverfront Park.
If you have any questions, please email us at read@rollingreadersspacecoast.com, or call our office at 321-254-9976.
This year's Youth Truth Survey window will open January 5, 2023 and remain open through January 27, 2023. We are excited to once again have this opportunity to receive feedback from our students.
We will survey students in grades 3-6 during this time.
Parents DO have the option to opt their students out of participating in the survey. Please note that there is no penalty at all for a student that does not want to take the survey. Parents may request to review the questions that will be on the survey. A PDF version can be emailed at a parent's request.
If you would like to request a copy of the survey, please email Mrs. Rosado at rosado.christine@brevardschools.org by January 5, 2022.
Thank you,
Mrs. Carver, Principal
