Exploring TEKS Topics in Middle Grades Mathematics with TI-Nspire™ Technology
June 16th – 18th, 2015 (8:30 am – 4:30 pm)
Designed for middle grades educators who need support transitioning to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), this workshop focuses on key content standards in sixth, seventh and eighth grades, with a focus on algebra in eighth grade. By exploring interactive, TEKS-aligned activities, you will learn essential technology skills for the TI-Nspire™ handheld and TI-Nspire™ Teacher Software. By the end of the workshop, you’ll be comfortable using the TI-Nspire™ CX handheld and Teacher Software to deepen student understanding of important TEKS topics in pre-algebra and algebra for sixth, seventh and eighth grades.

Implementing TEKS Mathematical Process Standards with TI-Nspire Technology
June 16th – 18th, 2015 (8:30 am – 4:30 pm)
Designed to equip middle grades and high school educators with strategies to excite and engage students, this workshop introduces dynamic, interactive lessons using Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) Mathematical Process Standards. You’ll model rich tasks through in-depth discussions, with an emphasis on task analysis, questioning strategies and essential TI-Nspire™ technology skills to enhance student learning. By the end of the workshop, you’ll be able to implement TEKS Mathematical Process Standards in your classrooms using TI-Nspire™ technology.

Navigating and Understanding the New Mathematics TEKS (6 -8)
This session is designed to foster a commitment to—and a sense of urgency about—engaging in an ongoing study of the mathematics standards throughout your school and your district so that mathematics instruction can be aligned with the standards.
In this session, you will have the opportunity to delve deeply into the revised Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for Mathematics to gain a robust understanding of the purpose, intent, and depth of the standards. You will practice using Dana Center tools to explore the horizontal (across concepts) and vertical (across grades or courses) alignment of the standards
You will receive a printed copy of the 2012 Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Mathematics booklet and a Dana Center-designed TEKS Mathematics chart.
Sessions run from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm and include continental breakfast and lunch. Participants are responsible for their hotel accommodations and other travel expenses to the sessions.

Mathworks Summer Teacher Institute @ Texas State San Marcos
This intensive teacher training program is designed to:
- Enable teachers to use the Mathworks school-year curriculum, Math Explorations
- Train teachers to successfully begin teaching pre-algebra and algebraic concepts at the middle school level.
- Develop teams of teachers who are prepared to guide students for success in algebra and more advanced math courses
This two-week training program is conducted each summer in San Marcos in early June (8th - 19th), coinciding with the Junior Summer Math Camp (JSMC) program. In the morning, teacher trainees will actively observe master teachers and students during the half-day Junior Summer Math Camp program. In the afternoon, teachers participate in a class covering pedagogy and teaching methods tied to the Mathworks curriculum. The Mathworks summer teacher training program includes:
- 30 hours – working with master teachers during the mornings at their half-day Junior Summer Math Camp
- 30 hours – attending a class in the afternoons
Program cost $3,000. Includes tuition, supplies, and room and board for two weeks.
Possible funding support available through grant funding and district support.
