Osprey Weekly
January 15, 2021
Dear LES Families,
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. devoted his life to realizing the dream of freedom, equality, peace, and economic and social justice. At Leonardtown Elementary School, we are committed to advancing that dream by ensuring equitable access to education for all of our beautiful and capable students, and we thank you for the work you do to help.
School is closed on Monday, January 18 in recognition of Dr. King. Each year, instead of having a day off, the third Monday in January is a day on for volunteerism to help communities all over the country. Our young students at LES led by our Student Council are figuring out ways to further Dr. King's vision through service to our community. I encourage everyone to help make January 18 a "DAY ON" and a day of service.

LES Great Kindness Challenge
LES is excited to announce that we will be taking part in the nation-wide “Great Kindness Challenge” (GKC). The GKC encourages and empowers students to do random acts of kindness throughout their day! A spirit week is planned that will include a fun theme for each day.
On Monday, January 25, we will begin our virtual “Great Kindness Challenge.” Please join us through encouraging your students to participate and be everything they are meant to be as we take on this honorable challenge! Just print out the special “Family Checklist” to get started! https://thegreatkindnesschallenge.com/familychecklist
We would love to hear how students are choosing to participate and an act of kindness they completed this week. Use this flipgrid link https://flipgrid.com/4cf714dc to share. Be on the lookout in the coming weeks for a LES “Great Kindness Challenge” video.
We are all excited to see our students shine with kindness and make LES a great place to learn and to grow!
For more information on The Great Kindness Challenge, please visit: www.greatkindnesschallenge.org. Thank you in advance for helping to create a culture of kindness and compassion in our community and beyond!
