Read to Me Initiative
Hello, Mashburn family!
We are calling on you all to help our newest readers achieve a lofty goal. Kindergarten students who come to us without a firm foundation in literacy often have difficulty catching up to their peers. To make sure we give them an even playing field, we are asking for you to help them hear 500 books read aloud in 25 days. (Yes-that’s 20 books a day!).
On Monday, September 9th , we are launching a Read to Me initiative to help us meet this goal for each of our “Read to Me” students. Have 10 minutes? Need a break from a stressful day? Come on down to the kindergarten hallway! Each teacher has an RTM center close to their door. Simply pull one or two names, ask for the students and read them a book. There is a book basket with books to read, or you can bring your own. Once you finish, smile a space on the student’s card, and send them back to class.
Please see a more detailed set of directions by clicking this link Below are some pictures so you will know what to look for when you visit.
A Message From Nurse Jamie
Hello Blue Bear Parents!
We will be completing this year’s hearing and vision mass screening for first, third, and fifth graders on Tuesday, September 24th. If you are interested in volunteering to help screen, particularly for the morning session, please give me a call or send me an email to sign up at 770) 889-1630 x 750113, or jtroup@forsyth.k12.ga.us The more help we have, the more smooth and efficient this day will be. I could not have done screenings last year without the wonderful parent volunteers that helped me! To make training easier, please see the link below that includes directions and training videos that our consulting nurses have put together!
Thank you,
Jamie Troup

Message from the Blue Bear Cafe
Parents you can find our weekly menu on www.mealviewer.com. You can also download the MealViewer app right on your phone. This is a great tool to have to stay up to date on the weekly menu, see nutrition facts, and allergy information.\
Also, please don’t forget to sign up for your MyPaymentsPlus account to track and pay for your child’s meals and other payments for the school. You will need your child’s student ID #. Once you are set up you can track your child’s activity in the cafeteria, set up an email reminder for low balances and add money to their account. To sign up go to www.mypaymentsplus.com.
If you have any questions please contact Lisa Hasse @ 770-889-1630 ext 750196.

Attention Kindergarten Parents – Our kindergarten students are bringing their Reading Logs home starting Wednesday, September 4th. Please refer to the attached picture for directions. Remember to read for 30 minutes and log two steps each night. Thanks for your support!
PTO News
Hi Blue Bear Families! Your PTO would like to thank you for all of your support with Boosterthon this year, because of your efforts we were able to crush our goal and together we raised $25,599! Something that is great about that is 66% of the money raised was from Non-Parent Donations! Your children’s specials teachers are super excited to be able to receive additional support and get shopping!
Next up is BINGO! It is next Friday, September 13th. Doors open at 5:30pm, games start at 6:00, so bring the family out for an evening of fun and prizes! Watch your child’s folder for the flyer to pre-purchase tickets and pizza.
There are still items available to purchase to support our teachers on the Sign Up To Supply list, and more things are constantly being added. If you’d like to be a part of that click HERE to get to the sign up genius.
As always, thanks for everything you do to support your school’s PTO.
The Honey Pot
The media center is buzzing these days with Blue Bears looking for “honey”!
We are having fun in specials using digital tools for research and creation, building with manipulatives, “making” in the Makerspace, having Kindergarten story-time, and having fun! Breaking news!! Smencils will be on sale for $1.00 each every Thursday morning. (All proceeds will go toward supplies for the Makerspace.)
STEM Lab Supplies
The STEM Makerspace is dwindling, and we need materials for our STEM projects. We are in dire need of these things.
Craft sticks, clay, fabric pieces, toilet paper rolls, paper towel rolls, corks, bottle caps, pom poms, googly eyes, pipe cleaners, ziplock bags (all sizes). And, anything from home that might be a reusable tool to build with (ideas: egg crates, chip cans, tiny boxes, etc.)
Thank you for your help,

7 Mindsets Update
This month’s mindset is 100% Accountable. Throughout the month, we will focus on owning your life, overcoming limiting beliefs, focusing your energy, and growing through life. You and your child can work on applying this mindset at home by setting goals, identifying challenges that will make meeting your goal difficult, and making a plan for overcoming those challenges.
