Week of March 31, 2014
Announcements:
This Thursday will be a field trip to UW-La Crosse. The students will be touring the Archaeology Center and will be watching a presentation at the Planetarium. I will be at a conference in the Dells on this day. Please talk with your child about the importance of making good choices while on a field trip, especially when the classroom teacher won't be there. Thanks so much!
The Gebhardt Spelling Bee will be held this Friday at 1:30 in the Gebhardt gym. Representing our classroom will be Abigail and Faith. William will be the alternate. It should be a great competition!
Reader's Workshop
This week we will be studying how readers MAKE CONNECTIONS to the books they are reading:
- readers bring knowledge from personal experiences to the interpretation of characters and events
- readers make connections between texts of various genres
- readers specify the nature of the connections that they are making
- readers make connections about social issues of today
Writer's Workshop
This week the students will be writing narrative stories. They will be working to plan the major events, the characters & their development, planning for tension in the plot, and describing the setting with appropriate detail.
Word Study
This week we will be studying some Greek and Latin roots.

geology, geography, millimeter, geocentric, kilometer, psychology
Math
Group 1 - This group will be practicing how to multiply multi-digit numbers with and without decimals. They will also be reviewing how to divide with 1-digit divisors and then learning how to divide with 2-digit divisors.
Group 2 - This group will be working to solve expressions, equations, inequalities, and functions. This work will include work with order of operations, exponents, and graphing.
