What is Human Trafficking?
Human Trafficking is the act of illegally transporting people from place to place. Usually for the purposes of forced labor or sexual exploitation. They get their victims by telling them that they will give them promising jobs and more stability. From the article "Center for Global Impact," it states that parents would usually sell the children in hopes that they will escape poverty and have a better life with more opportunities for them.
Statistics
Some of the causes of Human Trafficking is Oppression, Poverty, and Lack of human rights. According to DoSomething.org there are about 600,000 to 800,000 victims to Human Trafficking. Also, 80% is women and half of those are children. The ILO estimates that 150.2 billion illegal profits are made each year from Human Trafficking. One-Third is made from forced labor and the other two-thirds is from sexual exploitation.
Why Human Trafficking is a problem
Human Traffickers will use forced labor, sexual exploitation, and even extract organs and tissues for a lot of money. They control their victims through phycological intimidation, such as threatening their loved ones. That's how they lure their victims in because the victims don't want there loved ones to get hurt.
Solutions
The United States has The Trafficking Victims Protection Program (TVPA) which was authorized in the year 2000. This act is focused on the prevention and protection of trafficking victims and the prosecution of the traffickers. TVPA has been a great program because this helps people talk about what they have been through and make bonds with other victims.
