ESL Holiday Info --See Mrs. Kasper with questions

Many of our Muslim students and families are currently participating in activities related to the upcoming celebration of Eid al-Fitr. This year, that feast will fall on June 24th. It is important for us to be aware of this because some of our students may participate in the daily fasts that occur before Eid (for a month). During this time, adults and sometimes older children do not eat or drink anything from sunrise to sundown. I was reminded of this today because a first grader I work with who is Muslim said he didn’t want a drink because he is not drinking water or eating right now (because Mom said). He didn’t seem to understand all the details…

My experience has been that older school age children participate in the fasting from food and water, but not so much younger students. In the past, I have arranged for students who are not eating lunch to have an alternate setting to spend that time (usually with me in ESL). If it’s possible to provide another location, I would encourage that. Also, during Eid (6/24-6/27) it is possible students may be absent from school for the holiday celebrations.

Many Muslims in the United States celebrate Eid al-Fitr (also known as Id al-Fitr or Eid ul-Fitr) on the first day of Shawwal in the Islamic calendar.

It marks the end of the month-long fast of Ramadan and the start of a feast that lasts up to three days in some countries.

Bus Plan B--It's the REAL Plan! (lol)

Team-

With buses still staggering in we will continue through the remainder of Summer School by working to utilize Bus Plan B---transition your students after car riders are dismissed. The office will announce buses as they arrive and we will load those buses. I think this seems to be the safest dismissal process and helps you finish closer to end of the day time. Let me know if you have questions.

Technology Staff to Help Tommorrow

Expect help from technology tomorrow!

In the morning, our helper will be Josh and in the afternoon our helper will be Chad. they should be floating around the building and have a walkie with them in case you can't reach the office.

All issues with classroom temps need to be sent to Ryan Stewart, Chinn’s head custodian. Once he gets your request for room temperature he will push those requests through SchoolDude. Thanks!

STILL WORKING ON LATE BUSSES

Team --

Thank you for being flexible for our late buses situation! I know there is worry about sending students upon announcement on their own out to the bus. I want to be sure no students are left behind or don't make it out to me so here is a quick fix plan.

Work with the staff in your hallway to assign each of you a bus to watch. Then when that bus is called that teacher can safely walk all of that group to me at the bus doors. If after I have called car riders to dismiss and we still don't have busses on the lot then I will announce to make the bus transition to your chaperone teacher. Students can then move to the correct location teacher and wait together in your hallway. You might want to make a bus number sign to put outside your classroom for students you are hosting.

Hopefully they are on time in the future and we won't need this Plan B!

12 x 18 drawing paper & Other Needed Supplies

requests for 12 x 18 drawing paper has been ordered and they expect it to be in later this week. It will be delivered once it arrives.

It is our goal to make sure that teachers have the necessary supplies for summer school, at this time though we are asking that teachers collaborate with each other and if possible to share or borrow from each other, in some instances this may not be possible and those requests we will make every attempt to fill or substitute with an item of comparison. We are delivering several one and two items when it may be very possible that the teacher next door has one or two extra.

Teacher Payroll Verification Forms

As a reminder, teachers need to fill out the Payroll Verification sheet. Each of you received one copy in your staff meeting folder--if you need another one come see me. Please email those to me by the last day or bring them to me with your summer Check-out sheet. I will then print those sheets, verify the times and sign them and deliver to DO on Friday, June 30th. This is the only way that you will get paid!

NWEA Information & links

Thank you for your patience yesterday as we worked to figure out the NWEA system together. Changing to a new program or process is never flawless. As promised I am sharing the google slides presentation that I used yesterday for you to review at your convenience. Within the google drive is the link to the student view version that may be very helpful to display as your students are logging on.

Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have questions, but reviewing the NWEA training videos and google slides presentation will be very helpful.

Attendance News

Please take attendance for all 6 periods first thing in the morning. If a student is present mark them present in all sections for the day. The office will adjust accordingly as they arrive after 9am or leave early.

If you mark a student absent and then that student shows up please call the office so that we are not calling home on an absent student and worrying parents. Any student absent and/or coming in late would come to your classroom with an orange slip or a printed out late slip sticker. If the child doesn't have either of those and shows up to your classroom late--you marked them absent---then please call the office. If is possible a student went to the restroom or was at breakfast.
