Update from CHS
Greetings! I sincerely hope this message finds you safe, healthy and focused on what is most important right now: the well-being of yourself and your families.
You should have received Mr. Fenske’s message yesterday regarding the extension of our school closure through Friday, April 24th. If you did not, please email Ms. Hanna (toscanoh@cleverbluejays.org) so that your contact information can be updated in our system and you can receive the most recent updates from the school district. I can not emphasize enough how important it is that you are receiving our communications.
While the amount of time away from school has changed, our plan for learning at this point has not. The district administrative team is in constant communication and our top priority is the families we serve. Our conversations are focused on how we can best support you during this unprecedented time. Please know that your frustrations and concerns are heard and that we share many of them along with you. We are doing our best to find answers and continue to ask for your patience. At the same time, do not hesitate to reach out with anything that is on your mind if you think we can help.
Many of you received communication last night for students enrolled in Dual Credit, Plato or MoCAP, and/or Advanced Placement. If you did not receive the email and you have a student who is involved in any of those courses, please reach out to me.
Please encourage your student(s) to find balance. There are plenty of opportunities on Canvas to participate. Also, I have strongly recommended to the teachers that all second-semester assignments and assessments be re-opened to allow students to improve on past attempts or complete missing assignments. This may require alternative assessments but will only apply to previously covered material. Reach out to individual teachers with any requests for past assignments or questions on how to best complete them. However, none of this should become a burden to you or your student(s). There is value in trying new things beyond what we are providing - I shared this with our students in an email yesterday and I want to reinforce it here:
Try new things. Exercise. Get into a routine. Soak in the sunshine when you have a chance. Turn off the screen. Or, watch something that helps you understand what you are passionate about. Write a letter to a grandparent. FaceTime with someone you miss. Read a book. Learn to cook. Help your parents without being asked to.
Our teachers are working diligently behind the scenes and are available daily to answer questions or provide guidance. Do not hesitate to reach out!
That's all for now. Take care of yourselves and each other.
All the best,
Mr. Casey
