Three concepts that always seem to plague our students year after year, main idea, inferences and summary. Angela Venters from Region 7 will be here to assist us with strategies to help teach these skills explicitly. She will share simple ways to show how to find these concepts in texts and how to think about what is most important in situations. Not a simple task for some readers.

Readers that are fluent and effective may need these same tactics as they mature as readers. Sometimes non-fiction requires extra analysis and time to focus as reading levels increase.

Standards based learning builds a strong foundation for understanding as children graduate from grade to grade. Standards based stations will give ideas on what to practice in stations to create learning experiences to enhance future learning.

Multistep problems in math have always been an issue. What strategies do we have in place to help students attack those problems? Do we have similar strategies from classroom to classroom or grade to grade? What's out there?
