2017-2018 In Review
Peer to Peer programs continue to grow and this year we saw 6 new programs start up in Genesee County including Siple Elementary in Davison, EAJ High School in Mt. Morris, Swartz Creek Middle School, and Lake Fenton Middle School. We are wrapping up the year with another Peer to Peer Roundtable on May 21. If your district is interested in developing a Peer to Peer program, please connect with your ASD TC for more information and training opportunities!
Clio hosted the first Community Conversation in Genesee County to help increase opportunities for transition aged students. This was a fantastic collaboration between Clio Area Schools and GISD Project CHOICE classrooms along with community partners such as the Clio Chamber of Commerce and Clio Rotary. Information has been shared with the Countywide Transition Committee and with Special Education Directors. Resources are available if your district is interested in hosting a Community Conversation next year!
Building Your Future (BYF) has continued to be a successful model to support high school seniors in addressing barriers to community participation and employment. Clio High School, Grand Blanc High School and Swartz Creek High School teams supported target students in collaboration with MRS and GHS. 75% of our target students gained work experience and all demonstrated gains in appropriate social and work place behaviors. Please let us know if your high school is interested in learning more about the BYF process!
5 school teams participated in our K-12 Mini Intensive training this year. The opportunity to learn alongside your colleagues and collaborate to implement strategies is so valuable! Thank you to all of our teams that participated this year including Carter Middle School in Clio, Montague Elementary in Mt. Morris, Richfield Public School Academy and Early Learning Center, Grand Blanc Academy and Burton Glen. Consider participating in one of our Mini IT trainings for 2018-2019. Talk to your director or ASD TC for more information!
