MAP Assessments Next Week
The beginning-of-year MAP testing window is upon us. The district requires the MAP Growth Screener for all students, which will be used to help guide your child’s instruction in math, reading and science. The MAP assessments show what individual students already know and what they are ready to learn in the assessed areas, as well as identify student growth as we progress through the year.
What: Beginning-of-Year MAP Testing for Math, Reading, and Science. Please click the links below for more information on MAP Growth.
When: Students will test during class time on the following days:
Monday, September 13 (Math)
Wednesday, September 15 (Reading)
Friday, September 17 (Science)
Materials Needed: Students will need their school-issued device, headphones, paper, and pencil.
Facts about MAP Growth Test:
It is a computer-based test.
Questions can be multiple choice, drag-and-drop, fill in the blank, etc.
Each test has about 50 questions.
Students usually take around 60 minutes to complete the test.
Students will not know the answers to some of the questions. This is expected, as this test is constructed in a way that students should not know every answer. The purpose of the test is to see what they know and what they are ready to learn.
By working together, we can make sure your child’s test experience is positive and successful. Here are some suggestions that parents can do to help children succeed. Students should:
Get plenty of sleep the night before the test.
Eat a healthy breakfast at home or at school.
Come to school on time with the tools that are needed. (i.e. school-issued device, headphones, paper and pencil, etc).
Please let me know if you have any questions.

VOTER-APPROVAL TAX RATE ELECTION (VATRE)
Mansfield ISD residents are encouraged to attend any of the upcoming community meetings to learn more about the Penny Swap, or Voter-Approval Tax Rate Election (VATRE), that will be on the Nov. 2 ballot.
The Penny Swap proposes to restructure the MISD tax rate, moving 13 cents from the district’s debt side of the tax rate to the maintenance and operations side, keeping the total tax rate the same. With voter approval, this swap would generate approximately $24.7 million annually in additional revenue for MISD, which would be used to help the district maintain quality instruction, student programs and schools of choice.
Residents may attend any of the district’s three in-person informational presentations, or tune into the Facebook Live event on Oct. 5, to learn more about the proposition and hear from school district officials.
MEETING SCHEDULE:

The Penny Swap would allow MISD to maximize state funding and generate more revenue for MISD operations, while not raising the total tax rate. More information is available at MISDPennySwap.org.
Seeking Donations
Mary Orr Intermediate School serves over 600 fifth and sixth grade students. The needs and backgrounds of these students are extremely diverse. We have developed an incentive program that rewards students for excellence in academics and citizenship called Tiger Stripes. This program has proven to be very successful and encourages students to contribute to our school and community in many positive ways. The success of this program has been aided tremendously by the support of area businesses.
This student incentive program allows students to earn a form of money that can be used to purchase a variety of items, both within and outside of the school. Real world skills are developed as students learn to use a register to record deposits and withdrawals. The incentive program allows teachers, parents, and other staff members to reinforce positive behavior in students who are in need of extra encouragement.
The last year has been very challenging for our students, families, and businesses. However, we know that our children are our future. It is my hope that you will help us recognize those students who are working to achieve and excel in our public schools. We are soliciting your donation of services, gift certificates, tickets, and/or merchandise. We would welcome your support if you or your business can participate. Thank you in advance for your consideration of our incentive program.
