News from Lions Park School
Letter from the Principal
Dear Lions Park Families,
It is nice to have sunshine today! With the weather continuing to change frequently, we appreciate your continued efforts to help your children dress for the weather. On the days when the snow is melting, it can get very wet on the playground. It may be a good idea to send your child to school with dry socks and pants in their backpack. The office does not have enough dry clothes for all the students who get wet. We are looking forward to better weather soon!
Due to our four missed days of school, the report card date was changed to March 1st. Report cards will be sent home with all students that day. This is always a good time to sit down with your child and reflect on what is going well and set goals for improvement. In your conversation, it is most helpful to focus on specific behaviors and things your child can do to get better, rather than focusing on the end result/grade.
During the week of March 4th, Lions Park students will participate in a 30-minute classroom presentation delivered by Gail Valentini, School Social Worker, to educate them in an age-appropriate way about the topic of childhood sexual abuse. These valuable presentations will teach students more about personal safety, safe vs. unsafe touches, safety steps to follow if someone breaks the touching rule and good secrets vs. bad secrets. All District 57 schools will participate in these presentations once again this school year in compliance with Erin’s Law, which mandates education about sexual abuse prevention for public school students in Illinois. All students will participate in the sexual abuse prevention program unless a parent or guardian contacts me via email (kkelly@d57.org) or phone (847) 394-7330 x 3012 to request that their child not participate. Please do not hesitate to contact me or Mrs. Valentini (gvalentini@d57.org) if you have any follow up questions.
