Mrs. Berry's JES Counseling Corner
October 2016
Happy Fall JES!
Recap of September
I was able to visit the 2nd, 4th, and 5th grade classrooms! I missed the 3rd grade classrooms due to the Bicentennial Torch going by JES.
COLLEGE GO WEEK
The last week of September was College Go! Week (click here for more information) and the school staff used this week to discuss with the students the ins and outs of college.
In 2nd grade we discussed what college was, who has the opportunity to go to college (EVERYONE!), and how the students get to college. After the lesson we talked about what the students wanted to be when they "grow up" and how they were going to accomplish this goal.
In the 4th and 5th grade classrooms the students completed a Learning Styles Quiz, found here. We used the quiz to discuss how the students can prepare for college, what it takes to get to college, and again questions about college were answered.
The Learn More magazine is available to Indiana students. It is available online, click on the appropriate link, as print copies are not available for JES students at this time. There are two versions for elementary grades; K-2 Learn More and 3-5 Learn More.
Please take the time to talk to your students about college.
October Classroom Lessons
The topics for lessons include drug prevention, bullying/respect/disrespectful behavior to peers, and any other topics of concern as noted by teachers and administration.
Red Ribbon Week 2016
During this week the school will be participating in special dress days as follows:
Monday: Wear red!
Tuesday: "Follow your dreams, don't do drugs!" Pajama day!
Wednesday: "Team up for a healthy lifestyle!" Team shirts!
Thursday: Throwback Thursday
Friday: Freaky Friday (Mix and match, crazy hair, etc.)
The National Red Ribbon Campaign began in 1985. The purpose is to increase drug prevention education among communities worldwide, especially among the youth. For more information on the Red Ribbon Campaign you can visit their website here!
2016's national slogan is "YOLO. Be drug free."
